It's definitely making China think about what kind of resistance they might run into if they try to take Taiwan. It's a totally different battlefield, but they're limited in that they're totally dependent on amphibious landing and paratroopers, so they will be outnumbered at the beginning.

That and Taiwan has ballistic missiles capable of hitting all their ports and airfields that would be supporting the operation, plus they have a decent navy with a fair amount of missile boats that will be gunning for any landing ships. There would be thousands of deaths before any Chinese boots even got on the beach.

Honestly if a "respected" nuclear power drops a bomb on another modern country today it is over. The fallout alone is going to harm way more than just the country it was dropped on. The few hours after that are going to determine the course of humanity (if we don't turn each other into glowing skeletons) for the next thousands of years.

Its a very fascinating what-if if a nuke gets dropped on a country and the rest of the world decides for some reason not to retaliate. It raises the question "Do we need a new doomsday weapon?". Nukes could be normalized in the concept of warfare and maybe perhaps used casually. A new arms-race could begin that would actually lead to bombs capable of actually destroying the planet.

Pretty much. although it's more like if the Proud Boys were a 90s style militia movement that could stand toe-to-toe with state security forces. Russia has a bunch of these too, but the Russians are better at keeping them from sperging out constantly and also no one cares about the Russian ones because the Russian ones aren't implicitly asking from material support from western liberal democracies.

The proud boys don't fly thinly disguised nazi flags and nobody made them into an official unit of the US Army. They were for a while blocked from receiving US military aid. They have also been internationally accused of war
crimes in a serious way by not the russian government.

These guys are not the proud boys. There is nothing good about them. And if Ukraine itself had any sense, they would been disbanded years ago. They give the whole country a black eye internationally.
