it's mostly retarded germans. iirc france is building 5 or so new nuclear power plants, UK as well but can't remember the number. as long as they can import it they don't care how much waste it produces as long as the local carbon footprint makes them feel better about themselves.


most of it is imported, while there is enough in theory it's costly to mine, not to mention it's absolute shit PR (there was a large protest pre-covid media liked to report on, and most normalfags are totally "pro green" but at the same time don't want whole areas turned into a giant hole). if putin turns off the gas they'd have to import more - or go into big slapfights to open more mines.
the biggest irony is that the party that was whining about nuclear energy the most alongside the party who fucked up the whole energy policy for a decade is now the sitting government. I'm still curious how they want to power all those electric cars which weren't really a thing when they had the retarded idea 10 years ago. fun times ahead!

The USSR had troops there. It was their missiles. Getting them online requires... working in a coordinated matter with the Cuban government.

Both sides ratcheted things up over a long period of time until the choice was nuke each other or quit. This whole deal skipped a shitload of steps. Where were the fucking NATO troops and their missile brigades? Where was this permanent existential threat? Oh, a hand-holding party that may have lead to a defense arrangement in the future? Wow, I fuckin' wonder why they were doing that!

No. Because Russia backed down. If they hadn't, we were going to war. And that's the salient point. We considered the Soviet Union building the ability to strike America from the Caribbean to be worth willing to go to war over, and now people are acting like it's just completely outlandish for Putin to behave in a very similar way, decades later, when we were practicing staging an offensive from Ukraine.

And, unlike the Cuban Missile Crisis, when America and the USSR both agreed a war should be avoided, and (albeit begrudgingly) recognized that the rival had valid interests at stake, in Ukraine, America blazed on ahead, escalating at every step, until OH MY GOD RUSSIA INVADED NOBODY EXPECTED THIS.
