If (as is likely) Russia has total air superiority it's going to be very difficult to challenge that and even more so in inferior machinery.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but bear in mind air superiority in this war isn't the same type as we had in Afghanistan and Iraq. At the very least the Ukrainians still have plenty of MANPADS, and probably still possess some mobile longer range SAMs. The Russians still are at risk in the air, even it no planes oppose them.

So far they've been pretty restrained in even threatening to pull that lever (even talking mad shit about nukes before talking about stopping gas supplies), but they'll be looking for ways to hit back now that the Germans in particular are openly arming Ukraine.

Kinda feels like this is getting closer to a full scale Happening, unless Russia is able to wrap things up quickly.
