Most people have a very Hollywood born understanding of modern combat, really of all combat. I wouldn't claim I'm some expert but its inevitable for an opposing force to attack you unless they're in full retreat. Even then they'll probably still do something to slow their attackers if they can.

Because the US Navy is the one that has taken the British Empire's role in securing global trade, finance, and various technological services.
