Even if Russia suffers for a while due to the sanctions, which is still to be seen since they have been prepping for it with China etc for a while, they've still accomplished a major feat by continuing the separation of Europe and America. The US has, for a long time and to the disdain of our critics, been the power broker behind most of Europe's democracies. At the end of the day despite all the legends of glory, Europe was still bankrolled, rebuilt and reinforced by American money and military power. This pan Atlantic broship was not to last though and Biden seems to be the geriatric dipshit left holding the proverbial hot potato - he is the president under which the camel's back broke and who completely decimated any lasting respect Europe had for the US. And Putin put the final nail in that coffin by responding to Bidens huffing and puffing by invading anyway, and Biden only being able to levy sanctions in response.
Europe has completely lost faith in America and while Europe is becoming more united with one another the US is becoming more fragmented on all levels.
So really, even if Putin gets fucking merc'd on live tv tomorrow by The Ghost of Kiev Samyuli himself, he's still accomplished more than any Russian ruler in the last 50 years by driving a lasting wedge between Europe and the US.
