I think you might be overestimating Ukraine's ability to fight a protracted war. While they won't collapse in a few days or maybe not even this month, they will suffer incredibly severe losses if they try to hold in the east as Russian spearheads are already cutting across the country. Even if they do try to pull out, the retreating forces will suffer from a Russian bombing campaign and likely shattered morale. Kyiv will also be surrounded within a few days and that will severely damage the Ukrainian logistical situation in the east; similarly, if Mykolaiv falls soon and Ukraine is unable to make an orderly retreat, then even the southwest will be open to Russian attacks.

If, however, Ukraine manages to make the miracle happen and last for months or years, then Putin's regime will be absolutely shaken to the point where the sanctions of the last week will look like child's play. I'm probably more afraid of that scenario as it makes the world's largest nuclear arsenal very unpredictable and paranoid.
I mean if anything Ukraine is about to become a Hub for mercenaries, neardowells, and all assortments of fuckery. Because the weapons shipments aren't stopping anytime soon that's for sure and even if the official government surrenders you know that people in the western portion will want to become their own break away real Ukraine and the US will happily send in troops sto ensure a breakaway Republic of Ukraine is under it's control.

It's gonna make Putin look like a monster and further isolate him from the international community. Probably even create discord among his own people becase Ukraine has the second largest Eastern Orthodox population outside of Russia. Again... bombing durka durkas is one thing. This is something else. Islam is only like 0.2% of Ukraine as a whole. Ironically, a lot of them went with Crimea.
isolate him further how, what else can they do at this point besides actually getting their hands dirty?
as for selling it to the population, this is current year, we've seen how retarded people are. they are under a constant propaganda barrage anyway and have been for years, and that's if the perception of "russia against the rest of the world" doesn't up their resolve in the first place. and even if they disagree, what they gonna do, vote him out?

There's a big part of me that thinks this didn't work out exactly the way he was hoping it would. He was probably counting on a coup d'état within the Ukrainian government, or early capitulation, and he rolled the dice. I don't think his expansionist plans meant expanding into ankle deep blood and rubble. After all, what financial resources could he call upon to allow him to rebuild from such devastation?
that's the problem, is was a clear "damned if you do, damned if don't" situation. there wasn't really anything he could do, anyone acting surprised didn't pay attention. "he didn't need to go to war!!!" - ukraine's border is 500km from moscow, and zelensky was talking about getting nukes. usa has flattened countries for less, and has already been meddling there for years. if he does nothing nato will encroach further and further to the point he might as well let them run the country.
there was never a real "win" in the first place. even if he takes over the country in a day, then what? puppet regime means fuck all if you can't enforce it, and with an opposing population that would mean occupation. doesn't really matter if zelensky flees or not or makes whatever concessions he wants if he doesn't follow them anyway (he didn't before, why should he now?), all the while west will sanction him anyway. so he already "lost" the second he stepped over the border.
as for rebuilding, that's a concern after the threat is neutralized. the question people should ask how far he's willing to go to do that (and that was pretty much always the goal, whatever stupid IVAN'S COMING FOR EUROPE the media is peddling".

A rump western ukraine will be an even poorer and more benighted shithole than the current ukraine filled with galicians even more sympathetic to neo nazi thinking, neither the americans nor the Euros will want to take any responsibility for it, other than the Hungarian part desperately wanting to GTFO

Edit:
Sorry but a cruise missile strike on "freedom square" at this point of the war seems kinda sus

What is the situation so far?
Fighting in Kharkov continues wtih Russians pushing, also continuing the encirclement of Mariupol while also starting to infiltrate the city, and they appear to be walking into Kherson without resistance which opens up the road to Odessa and Western ukraine more generally. 40-50k ukrainians in the east in real danger of encirclement and need to make a choice as to whether to make a break for it and makes themselves very vulnerable to being torn apart by air attack or accepting encirclement.

Just stumbled on a strange video of the Canadian Opposition Leader Candice Bergen giving a pro-Ukraine speech outside the Russian embassy, and getting booed by the crowd.

Its internal Canadian politics. There was a mixed crowd politically and anyone on the left now considers anyone associated with the
conservative party in Canada to be nazi. Even at an event like this where they have nothing against what she is saying, she is going
to get booed and attacked. Canada has gone totally insane. A minority government is somehow ruling the country. The government
proved that they could simply erase everyone's basic rights by a majority vote declaring an emergency.
Its a country led by a retarded hipster doofus and its not worth treating seriously anymore.

I'm saying this for those who need to hear it.

Anyone saying hahaha Russia failed it fucked up it did absolutely horrible doesn't understand it's avoiding civilian casualties and importantly we
most importantly haven't seen it's new equipment roll out yet. So far the war is this surround every city til they either overthrow the defenders or they defeat in detail. Second there is the presence of mercenaries both Russian and western backed mercenaries in Ukraine. What will very likely occur is the Ukrainian military and Russian military will agree to a new cease-fire officially while unofficially Russian backed battalion's contine to fight fascism while the official ruskies go home so to speak.
theyre bombing residential areas though theyve minimalized jack shit

america iirc didnt even face resistance in a lot of areas. just to show that no, youre not suppoed to lose thousands of men and vehicles fighting a non superpower within days and youre not supposed to be so hated because of flimsy justification and failed propaganda that you face stiff guerilla insurgents turning every window into a potential death trap from the get go by the wider populace.
Already hitting Ukrainian propaganda outlets.
"already" this should have been day 1 shit.

you either drive russia into economic irrelevance as they hand wring over a tiny bit of their former aging empire or you drive people into violent unrest.

ukraine had nukes itself and russia interfered long before
