The one that bothered me way more is platforms banning their thots/streamers. As hilarious as it is roasties getting pwned, this world doesn't need to return to isolationist pre-internet days where it is easy to dehumanize your enemy and think of them as "somewhere else." If you isolate Russian people who are just people and a good few I've seen don't agree with the war to begin with it is just going to make it easy for both sides to dehumanize each other, and to me that is just sick.

Just like we have national myths of heroism in the US, Russia has their Great Patriotic War and the Nazis who sieged Stalingrad and Leningrad so holding up your Nazi militia as freedom fighters is just going to piss of your average Russian soldier. You know, to want to kill them.

Ukraine has an advantage in that they're very similar to Russians, which makes it hard for soldiers to take a hard line against them. Using Nazis to taunt them is like cutting off your penis to spite your facial hair.

It has probably been explained in this thread before, but “Nazi” means something a bit different in the “East” than it does to us. For much of Eastern Europe and Russia in particular the colloquial usage of “Nazi” essentially boils down to “Westerner that has attacked/wants to attack us.” If you consider the historical perspective of a nation such as Russia, this will make much more sense. To them, NATO are quite literally Nazis.

Though they aren’t NATO, Azov Battalion in the Ukraine doesn’t really help dispel that perception, either.
