At very first glance, I thought I might be looking at one of Paul Harrell's characteristic jackets @Meat Target
How would Putinbros ever recover from *that*
>We're out in Lviv today so please bear with any gunfire you may hear in the background

Honest question: what would you have him say?
It honestly doesn't matter, and considering you are there I would recommend not listening to me. I have no flattering opinions of the EU and your government's love for it, but if believing his bullshit helps you to survive and get through this even emotionally then you best do it.

The Western media and my government assure me that Putin is crazy. He is irrational. He has no true grievance that could justify his insane rampage which is contrary to all international law and convention. This is a battle of good versus evil, light versus dark. There are no shades of grey.

Many decide to see what the Russians have to say for themselves and find that RussiaToday has been banned on Youtube, people who are trying to explain why Russia is on the warpath are being shut down to stop 'propaganda'. He is evil... But please don't check. Just trust us.

Perhaps Putin is insane. Perhaps he is everything they say he is. Perhaps he is literally Hitler.

But how is that helpful? How is that a wise message to give to our people when we all know how this is going to end?

This isn't going to end with Putin in a bunker in Moscow, blowing his own brains out as he is surrounded by NATO troops. It isn't going to end in a decisive, satisfying nuclear holocaust that will settle Reddit's bloodlust. It is going to end with a compromise. A deal that will see Putin remain in power, Ukraine be diminished and, eventually, relations will normalise between Russia and the West once again.

That will leave the Western governments looking like complete chumps in the eyes of their electorate. They will be the hypocritical buffoons who compromised with literally Hitler.

After Putin wins he will put the 'drug addicts and neo-Nazis' he has been chasing on trial. He will show damning video footage during their trials of people being crucified and burned, raped and murdered. The Western press won't report on it, but it will bleed out across social media nevertheless. Tens of thousands of people who have never heard of the Azov Battalion will see their crimes for the first time and they will wonder, 'Why the hell didn't anyone tell me this? I wouldn't have been so worked up if I had known this was a battle between two different shades of grey.'

And so our institutions will lose that little bit more respect. And so the people of the West will be that slight bit more demoralised. And so we take one more turn around the drain that we are circling.

It is all so tiresome. These idiots have shot themselves in the foot again, for no damn reason, and who suffers? We do. So what are we to do?

I'll tell you what you'll do.

You'll rate this post informative or your mother will die in her sleep tonight.

That's right.
Just let Russia stomp and shit wherever it wants. China too, surely they won't be emboldened by proto-commie Putin doing what he wants with minimal pushback. And neither of the two wanabe superpowers would ever try a smack at US sovereignty over the world even further down the line.
Sir, please understand that nobody in the "Western world" and "Western-adjacent world" are going to send troops to an East Slavic borderland to fight for a country nobody has any actual obligations to (anymore) and is a source of major corruption and even some petty tyranny in Europe.

Ukraine only ever had use to the "West" as a buffer against Russia, hence the US support in the Euromaiden protests that saw a pro-Russian Ukrainian president get ousted from office.

Taiwan, however, has several important alliances with several important countries, not just in the "Western world", but in the "Wester-adjacent world" in East and Southeast Asia. Japan and South Korea are especially sympathetic to Taiwanese aims for independence. Taiwan is not a source of major corruption or any sort of genuine tyranny, and hasn't been since 1995. Taiwan is also a central node in global microchip production and trade, and nobody is going to tolerate CCP-ruled China having any sort of grip on that.

Just like how nobody was going to tolerate Saddam Hussein mucking about in Kuwaiti oil fields.

TL;DR: I don't care about Ukraine, backwater among backwaters that it is, but I would be glad to fight for the state, the Republic, even the Nation of Taiwan.

Because the Russian Empire isn't the Qing Dynasty.

Because the Soviet Union isn't Maoist China.

Because Taiwan isn't Ukraine.

That's the part that worries me. Before all this started the entire thread was about how they had nothing to gain and would be screwed if they went for it so they won't. Then they did. Something we're not seeing must have changed that calculus and it's 50/50 if that something is sane.
There are so many possibilities: Putin is insane, Putin really wants to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine, Putin wants to secure the russian border, Putin goes cock on table because someone called his "bluff" in some behind the scenes negotiations, Putin just wants to beat down NATO talks with Ukraine. There are probably 100s of reasons, and we will never know, not knowing the full picture. Who knows what the official reasoning will be after everything settles and if it coincides with the truth...

I've literally already explained this twice.
You literally haven't. Some guy said "ohhh nooo Russians have been removed from western markets. Us US citizens should be worried because of this."

When foreigners have 0 protections and rights. Especially in an adversary country. And this shit has already been happening to US citizens. These are two entirely different issues. You should be worried about this shit in the US because it's happening in the US. Trade being cut off with the Russians doesn't affect this threat at all.

So it's starting to look like there are enough reports about abandoned Russian armor piling up to assume that there's a kernel of truth to it past the obvious Ukranian propaganda. What could explain it? The easiest explanation is that dumb conscripts were shocked to find out that this is a for realsies invasion and waited to get far enough away from command to dip the fuck out, but that kind of feels like a Ukranian cope. Possibly a snap decision by lower level command when they realized that they'd quickly outran their logistical supply chain, so they decided to consolidate and move onward, assuming there would be a rear guard to take care of things? Aliens? I doubt we'll be getting any real answers for a good while.

got my income cut in half starting today because the company decided to "take a stand" and stop selling product to Russia

wow, you care about war thousands of kms away, clap clap

just fuck my shit up
You should take a stand and quit that job because they're obviously scumbags who had business dealings with Russia.

Ukraineans are vile nazis who are shelling themselves to make Russians look bad, were killing the Russian people in Donbass for years,
Well, yes.

nd deserve to be liberated by courageous heroes who use magic rockets that would never-ever hurt an innocent person who is not a Nazi.
Sadly, no, this is war, not a movie. However, I realize that after 2014 coup this was inevitable, one way or another. If Russia didn't intervene, Ukraine would blow something and blame it on Russia with the rest of the world nodding in unison, letting them start full-scale attack on Donbass or Crimea.

Ukraine only ever had use to the "West" as a buffer against Russia, hence the US support in the Euromaiden protests that saw a pro-Russian Ukrainian prime minister get ousted from office.
you say this because you think about it like a realist. but the people who rule the west are not realists, they are idealists. they see themselves as part of a righteous moral crusade to spread liberal democracy across the planet, because to them liberal democracy is the greatest and most beautiful thing ever and anybody resisting it must be inherently evil.

so when you say "ukraine has no value to the west except as a buffer" that is true from a realpolitik perspective, but from the perspective of a convinced liberal internationalist it is not true, because to him the act of bringing liberal democracy to ukraine (which is done by integrating ukraine into liberal democratic institutions such as the EU and NATO) has great value in itself.
