Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I gave up on Caitlin Glass. She went full BLM on her social media. She has unfollowed Vic on Twitter. Even if she is just trying to protect herself, "What does it profit man to gain the whole world and lose his soul." It is walks like a duck and quack like a duck, it's a duck.
Uh, I checked Vic’s followers on Twitter, Caitlin still follows him there

Otherwise, you might find a thread about you in Animal Control.
I'm an idiot, not a pervert, have some faith my moral compass. Well, what little of it I have, at least.
I meant getting them on a bender, i.e. a drinking binge.

I suddenly don't want to know what else bender means.

Not every Funimation voice actor is a part of the clique (for example, J. Michael Tatum wasn't part of the clique until 2018. See the video of him from 2017 being grateful of Vic's impact on his career to the November 16, 2018, tweet). but the ones that are usually the ones that have been there for a long time. So much so that they have clout over regular employees or some of the colleagues.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that with Tatum. He's basically been apart of Funimation since they dubbed Samurai 7 in 2006. Prior to that he was close friends with then Funimation voice director Christopher Bevins.

He was always apart of that clique. He even hosted a podcast with Terri Doty called That Anime Show from to 2010-2014 and has voice directed and even wrote script adaptations for some of the Funimation dubs.

We have proof of Vic's innocence

Still gay to do a Supernatural cosplay, though.
Obviously. I mean, have you seen Dean Winchester? Vic's pants would rip themselves off his body to leap at the man if he were real (and I'd be so damn jealous of them).

Bro, I thought you were a fellow pervert. Aw man. So hard to find like-minded friends these days :(

I feel like the "right wing" excuse is distracting from the fact that these people legitimately fucking HATE Vic primarily because he's outwardly Christian and unapologetic about it. Given the Left's proclivity to apologize for any religion (that isn't Christianity) and their current absolute NEED to suck the dick of Islam whenever a raghead does something their religion specifically tells them to do.. (like Minecrafting themselves in public).

I don't think it's necessarily because they hate him as a person (though that might have something to do with a few of them), but they hate him for his religion, and that the dude just wears his heart on his sleeve.
If religion was the motive, one would expect them to also go after other professed Christians such as Caitlin Glass, Zeno Robinson, Johnny Young Bosch, Carrie Savage, and Kristi Kang.
From what is seen before, she's either somewhere between neutral & can't say it out loud like Rolon did for the sake of her career, or she's just forgot to unfollow him.
I’m pretty sure Caitlin Glass supports Monica and Jamie. If I recall correctly, she liked tweets that were supportive of them.

I don't think Tatum was part of the clique simply because of the contradictory nature of his statements in 2017 (where he credits Vic for helping him early in his career):

and on November 16, 2018:
When someone on the fringes of our circle does something sickening, we’re entitled to a share of outrage and disgust.
Certainly, by the latter, he was in the clique. Take note of Kara Edwards & Jamie Marchi in the replies.
If Tatum was truly in the clique earlier than this point, then there was no need to tweet such a thing.

1. Caitlin Glass shares their politics. Not a threat.
2. Johnny Young Bosch spends most of his time in the LA voice actor circle, not the Texas one. Bosch has had crazy detractors in the past, but never from his colleagues.
3. I am not familiar enough with the others to comment.
4. Sean Schemmel DOES hate Vic because Vic's an outspoken Christian and Sean thinks Vic is a hypocrite.
In other words, Schemmel is literally this meme:
Smug Atheist.jpg
Sabat has also contempt for Vic's faith, but not to the degree Schemmel does.
Greg Ayres is another because Greg is gay and does not like Vic because of Vic's faith.
This is something that was talked about 10 years ago:
Vic pretty much confirmed Ayres' animosity towards him during his deposition.

However, I agree with you that Vic's faith was not the sole factor that lead to this shit show. But to not acknowledge it as a contributing factor would be a mistake.
For me, I would say it was a myriad of contributing factors.
- Vic's personality - from the way he speaks, the way he dresses, the way he carries himself professionally, there are those who perceive him as arrogant or a closet homosexual. This factor alone has been a subject of derision by the likes of Sabat, Schemmel, Sonny Strait, Eric Vale, and others.
See the "Jerry Morgan" comics ANN did back in 2007.
- Vic's faith - In addition to Sabat, Schemmel, and Greg Ayres, "We Run Anime Convention"'s Faisel Ahmed (a fedora-tipping atheist) had no love for Vic in this department. Likewise, Justin Sevakis and the late Zac Bertschy focused on Vic's Sunday panels more than any other topic when they interviewed Vic in 2013. Also, the use of The Flinstones' refrain "of "Have a gay ol' time" in the intro of the same podcast was a subtle slight at Vic's Christian faith (because "Christian = homophobe" logic despite evidence of the contrary in regards to Vic).
- Vic's politics - Something that Vic rarely discusses, but would it be any wonder if his former colleagues would react if Vic had a position that was to the right of Lenin given how they behave on Twitter? Look at Eric Rolon, for example.
- Vic's popularity - See Vic's convention lines. You can't tell me that not one of the voice actors that came out against Vic wouldn't LOVE to have those same lines for themselves. Bigger lines = more money.
- Vic's fans - Whether they are part of the Risembool Rangers or just a casual fan, the reason why some of these detractors hate Vic is that they hate his fans. This is something that Sean Schemmel eluded to in his interview with Geekdom101. He does not like when Vic's fans come to his lines and treat him as they would Vic. He most likely isn't the only one. Again, see ANN's "Jerry Morgan" comics.
Also, the Johnny Otaku incident didn't help. Johnny previously said he wanted "to become the next Vic Mignogna" at a convention in front of a panel of Funimation voice actors. Next, Johnny stalked the lobby of Funimation until being escorted from the premises by security, then locks installed. Given the nickname "Vic Locks," they blame Vic for Johnny's behavior.
- Office politics - The straw that broke the camel's back. The fiasco over who would voice Broly in DBS: Broly plus Vic moving back to Texas to get more work with Funimation did not sit well with some. However, I believe that Vic potentially getting more ADR opportunities really set them off.
A misunderstanding among ISWV supporters have is that the Funi clique wanted to take Vic's voice roles away from him. Though that ended up happening, the bigger (and better) argument would be they wanted to prevent Vic from having more ADR roles. Despite Vic having one ADR spot under his belt (Juni Taisen in 2017), those who regularly held ADR spots would face new competition in Vic. A new person getting ADR spots would mean less for them. That won't do.
With DBS: Broly poised to be a success, 2019 looked to be a renaissance year for Vic - more conventions (more money) asking him to be a guest and the promise of new director opportunities. The clique knew it and didn't want it.
