It would be extremely hypocritical of Russia to claim self-defense by building a Slavic Great Firewall after spending the better half of the last decade perfecting the art of information warfare. Russia claims that the internet is a tool of the CIA, but he's certainly not above using it to spread disinformation in Ukraine.

Also it really must be said: if Putin truly had even the slightest iota of concern for the welfare of the average Russian, he would've never tried to bring Ukraine into the fold to begin with. Literally every country that has frozen conflicts involving Russia, be it Moldova, Georgia, or Ukraine itself has a bone to pick with Russia for starting shit in the first place. The only country that tolerates Russia's meddling is Belarus, and that's only because Lukashenko's entire regime would collapse in on itself without extensive support from the Kremlin.

Putin's incursions in Chechnya, Moldova, Georgia, and now Ukraine have all had the exact opposite effect of what was intended. Instead of bringing those regions into heel, they end up getting pushed into the opposite side that Russia wanted. Moldova wants to join NATO like Romania but it's stuck with a frozen conflict via Transnistria. Chechnya had two wars and it's still known as a hotbed for separatist/extremist activity, Georgia and Russia no longer have any diplomatic ties due to Russia's meddling with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and Ukraine has become much more aligned with the EU and NATO specifically because of Crimea, Donbas, and now the full-on invasion.

The sanctions were slowly being piled up over the years, but Putin wanted to keep pushing his luck. At this point, enough is enough. If Putin really wants to play hardball with Ukraine, then he shouldn't be surprised when the rest of the world decides to play hardball back.

People have been warning for years that Ukraine should have remained neutral. It was always in NATO's eyes as the perfect region to strike back at Russia, the Eternal Enemy. As for Georgia, their President had started it first in 2008 when Georgia and South Ossetia relations went completely sour. Naturally it is blamed on Russian separatists but Ossetia wanted to secede from Georgia and they did not want that. The Yugoslavia wars showed that NATO bombing was indiscriminate and there was no liberal condemnation of the tens of thousands who died there. NATO, again, wanted the spoils.

There have been warnings to Ukraine for years that an alliance with NATO would not give them anything they wanted. They would be puppets to the United States as a gateway to attack Russia. They could have leapt at the opportunity when Russia was weak after 1991 but they didn't. They allowed Russia to grow and tease Ukraine with protection.

Again, the 'rest of the world' does not include China, which produces nearly all the materials we use today. Synthetic rubber? China. Parts for your computer? China. Solar panels? China. NO ONE has ever boycotted them, including Disney or Apple - the latter of which uses Chinese slave labor - because everyone knows what would happen if they cut exports.

"Enough is enough"? Nah. Gas prices are going to get higher and so are food prices, once China decides it has enough and takes Taiwan AND stops all fertilizer exports.

Russia hasn't posted casualty numbers because the operation is still ongoing and there's no necessity to update Twitter every time a soldier gets schwacked or a truck gets blown up. Pretty good odds that the higher ups in the Russian defense ministry don't know the casualties yet, but for some reason you think not having a live feed of dead troops is somehow Russia's fault and a perfectly reasonable thing to have.

If Mexico had spent the last 8 years getting the most modern antitank weapons, special forces training, etc dumped into it, and if the US was being careful to avoid carpet bombing areas where civilians might be, then yeah you'd probably expect the US to take some losses in terms of Humvees, HEMTTs, Bradleys and Abrams tanks simply because it only takes one smartass with a Javelin to ruin a tank's day, and unless you glass the entire surrounding area of where your convoy is moving, there's zero way to be sure that smartass isn't out there waiting for you to come into range.

you can have adequate fuel and support logistics for one and you can not put all your tanks in a straight line on a road or trapped in marshes for two, also no america would probably air strike tons of assets first and then shell the assets in the area because we have a functioning army that can actually invade places long enough for the occupation after to be the part thats the shitshow
