It came from her having gone to a private Catholic school. It was paid for by her grandparents. It is kind of dumb actually given that there are ways in which families that aren't well off can go to them. Some are stupidly expensive but depending on where you go, those prices aren't entirely out of reach.
Personally, I'm a public kid, but I know some people who are far from well off but made it work. Factory worker dad's and stay-at-home moms. Not destitute but definitely not rich.

Lauren's hiatus is apparently "voluntary," so I suppose he might not have been forced to take it, though I wouldn't be surprised if he was basically suggested to take a break with the implication that it'd be forced otherwise.
I think how Lauren's piracy actually got noticed by people in Japan, including the JAV actress herself, made it a bigger issue.
