Also, if they have hearts of steel then forcibly conscripting men in their 50s wouldn't be necessary.
 
Eh it was relatively common practice up until the late 1800s. Especially for artillery crews. Ye Olde cannons were a wee bit less safe and you were probably at just as much risk from your own cannon killing you as the enemy.
I know, I mean that's not what the ukraine's been doing (if the reports are legit). and there's still a big question what happens afterwards, highly doubt those guys are under surveillance or any guard at all.
