So brave of redditors to use a crisis for internet points while only a handful actually debate the veracity of claims given to them.

The burning documents thing isn't really insidious. Standard practice pretty much everywhere is to burn everything before you pull out because you never know what might be used against you later. Just look at what happened in Afghanistan in the state department buildings. The Taliban ended up getting a huge amount of information I'm sure they've sold off since then.
Yes even just standard payroll or part orders can give the Russians Intel on troop numbers and equipment. Just throw everything you don't want to haul back behind your lines into a fire.

Edit: whoops didn't mean to reply to something from 6 years ago

This thread is fast so sorry if I missed it and it was already posted but Roman is selling Chelsea

Major bitcoin exchanges still have not cut off Russians from using them, and Russian state sponsored hackers have made millions(billions?) in ransomware attacks over the last decade.

I wonder if that will play any part in helping keep Russia afloat
So I think a lot of people are missinterpretting the sanctions, and overhyping crypto here. If russians are trading with russians (or chinese) they will still be able to. They do not need crypto to do it.

No Western firm (of any decent size and worth talking about here) will trade with Russian based companies no matter what. Doesn't matter on the type of transaction (crypto or otherwise). The risk of Americans chucking a fit and fucking them is to high.

The reasons Russians are rushing to crypto is as a store of value, not as a viable alternative to get around sanctions. It is the same reason people buy gold or ANYTHING that can hold value. If anything this is proof that crypto is not being used as we all want.

You have to be Pro-Russian to believe that not all Ukrainians want to die in a pointless war? I know you're trolling but your starting to sound like an unhinged ziocon.
Ukraine is ranked 130th out of 180 countries for corruption below Russia lol, why would ordinary Ukrainians die for the current government in Ukraine which is essentially an American puppet government that has seen the country fall even further in poverty and capital/talent flight from emigration until recently with the war? The conflict with separatists in eastern Ukraine has been going for 8 YEARS at this point since 2014 euromaiden. The Ukrainian factions behind EuroMaiden has Stepan Bandera as a rallying figure. Stepan Bandera was a an actual Nazi collaborator who worked with the Germans after being arrested for Proclaiming a Ukrainian State in 1941 during the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union

"Bandera remains a highly controversial figure in Ukraine,[22][23][24] with some Ukrainians hailing him as a liberator who fought against the Soviet, Polish and Nazi states while trying to establish an independent Ukraine, while other Ukrainians as well as Poland and Russia condemn him as a fascist[25] and a war criminal[26] who was, together with his followers, largely responsible for the massacres of Polish civilians[27] and partially for the Holocaust in Ukraine.[28][29][30][31]"

These are good points. But it can still be used to pay smugglers/bypass the SWIFT hassle as only Russians can actually use the Ruble currently

Do POWs get a mail-in vote?
In theory, yes. Under the various protections afforded to POWs, mail is one of them, typically handled by the Red Cross. If the captor country is playing by the rules, it could be done.

Now I want to go digging and find out if the US and Germany did that for the '44 election.

EDIT: Looks like a no, at least in part because of the US government not giving enough of a shit.
