I can't do the video justice with a TL;DR, but I'll say: the Russians have encircled Kiev and established a FOB, and are beginning phase 2, where they'll shell it to hell. Russian special forces have also captured a key airfield outside of Kiev that is going to be able to airlift in fresh troops without the weariness of the road march. The Russians may have initially underestimated the resistance they'd face, but they've adapted. 80% of the staged force has now been released into the Ukraine, and so far all the Russian moves match the Soviet/Russian tactical playbook, on the grand scale.

That’s not too surprising. I do think they bungled things and that they’d get smashed by Europe/NATO but it makes sense they’d start adapting. They could afford to make those mistakes, they have the numbers and equipment.

Russia is definitely winning, but they are winning much slower than they expected, so they've taken the gloves off and began to heavily bomb cities, including possibly targeting civilian targets to recreate Grozny. Their control outside major roads behind the frontline remains to be seen but probably isn't good. Also Russia still sucks ass at supplying their troops and their logistics are still terrible, especially in the northern front.

I read Putin's long essay about Ukrainian history and shaky basis for legitimate nationhood. In the essay, he makes frequent reference to the historical concept of Malorussia or Malorossiya. Does it upset the hohols if you call their land Malorossiya?

People generally want to have things that confirm their world view. I've learned this too late sadly (partly because sadly Im not wired this way somehow). But any meaningful discourse in a situation where sides are being firmly picked is impossible or very difficult, at least if conducted with the vast majority of people - unless you have some prior thing to bind you with the person you're talking with, like some sort of established trust.



It really sucks. When I realized people were truly like this on a consistent basis it kinda turned my life choices around a bit.
