It's astonishing to me that the common sense, most obvious route of dealing with Russia is not the one being taken. Is there a maximum IQ threshold to being a politician like there is with being a cop? Why do retarded politicians like Joe Biden and George Bush all seem to just fail upward?

The Russian army would have to be really foolish to just brute force their way into Kyiv while the defense can be reinforced. I think they'll hold off on entering the city until the eastern pincer reaches the outskirts of the city.

Rumor has it that they sent their conscripts and worst equipment first, which is apparently a strategy they've used before, which is honestly a shitty strategy because you're literally putting your worst possible foot forward first, giving the enemy optimum time to organize their best response. If that's true, then Putin is a retard & prolonged this war unnecessarily.

The logic is that you test and probe the enemy and gather on the ground intelligence before sending in more competent guys and better equipment. If the warplans the Ukrainians claim to have found are not fakes, the Russians times table was 14 days. It's been only a week so far.

If you do the math then the casualties Russia’s claimed to have sustained so far are actually lower percentage wise then the numbers the US lost in the Second Battle of Fallujah. It could (and likely is) a few hundred higher tbf but even then it’s still roughly equivalent (again as a percentage).

I had a conversation yesterday with somebody and they were like "We need to ban all Russians from the NHL". I asked why and they said "Because they are Russian". I countered that "I bet you thought we need to send all the Muslims back after 9/11" and I got that vacant NPC stare. It's become increasingly clear that after 9/11 the only problem a lot of people had was that it was a Republican president and not a Democrat making the decisions and that their distaste for xenophobia was only a tool of criticism but not an actual belief. Xenophobia is totally cool as long as their guy is doing it.

I had a similar conversation, I used confiscating Jewish assets because of Israel's occupation and oppression of the Palestinians. They literally said, "that's different because of WWII." Then had nothing to say.

People have no standards. This really is a mask off that the majority of society and the western world really have not moved on or learnt from the lessons of history. Which is scary because I have been noticing things in recent years. Especially from people I know who are super progressive who will literally say people like TERFS and JK Rowling should be killed unless they change their views.

There's no guard in their head that these sort of things are a non starter. You can be angry and unhappy, but there should be a moral and ethical framework where you never say or even think these things. There clearly isn't and for most people it's just been performative bullshit and as soon as they are allowed to be racist, xenophobic they jump at the chance.

Reminder that the US used a MOAB in Afghanistan against the Taliban and it was a ok but the minute Russia is accused of using a similar weapon it’s a heckin war crime. Could you imagine if Russia used the kind of overwhelming force that we used against Iraq or Afghanistan?

Once we made the threat to impose sanctions and then Putin did what we said we'd sanction him for if he did, it became obligatory actually to do so and to make them unprecedented in nature. There is no bigger signal of weakness than making a threat and then pussying out of carrying it out.

We already look like pussies because of how many loopholes are still in the existing sanctions. I haven’t heard anything about oil or gas being sanctioned particularly hard yet (though it’s been busy couple days for me).
