President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

They really didn't pay attention in history class in school did they. Since you can't pull stuff like that anymore. You can't invade a country like Russia who has nukes.

Russia is open for refugees today and as back in 2014. Regions are asking for donations, collecting warm clothes, food and preparing temporary places to house them. Refugees also can get their russian citizenship and get financical help a well. For some reason foreign news are very silent about this, but I hear about this all the time as a citizen.
I've seen cases where these people were moved to Russian territory and abandoned, because there was nowhere to put them. Even though they were promised housing.

Lavrov says Russia will continue Ukraine war till 'the end'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday he believed some foreign leaders were preparing for war against Russia and that Moscow would press on with its military operation in Ukraine until "the end".
Lavrov also said Russia had no thoughts of nuclear war.
Offering no evidence to back up his remarks in an interview with state television, a week after Russian invaded Ukraine, he also accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, an ethnic Jew, of presiding over "a society where Nazism is flourishing".

He said he had no doubt that a solution to the crisis in Ukraine would be found, and a new round of talks were about to start between Ukrainian and Russian officials.
But he said Russia's dialogue with the West must be based on mutual respect, accused NATO of seeking to maintain supremacy and said that while Russia had a lot of goodwill, it could not let anyone undermine its interests.
Moscow would not let Ukraine keep infrastructure that threatened Russia, he said.

Moscow could also not tolerate what he said was a military threat from Ukraine, he said, adding that he was convinced that Russia was right over Ukraine.
"The thought of nuclear is constantly spinning in the heads of Western politicians but not in the heads of Russians," he said. "I assure you that we will not allow any kind of provocation to unbalance us."
Russia did not feel politically isolated, and the question of how Ukraine lives should be defined by its people, he said.

Ukrainian officials have accused Russian forces of hitting civilian areas but Lavrov said Russian troops had strict orders to use high-precision weapons to destroy military infrastructure.
Offering no evidence, Lavrov said Russia had information that the United States was worried about the prospect of losing control over what he described as chemical and biological laboratories in Ukraine and accused Britain of building military bases there.

Yeah. Sadly, this is possible.
Putin makes retarded decisions but common russians are supposed to pay for the consequences. And, unlike mr. president, they barely have resources for their own families. Especially in regions that are far away from Moscow.

That said Russia is most likely not utilizing all of it's top toys in Ukraine.
Their performance is as expected for a post-commie Eastern-European shithole country where the number one rule in any organization is "Don't rock the boat". I guarantee you that every single one of the vehicles used by Russia in this war, was in perfect condition on paper - at least that's what the brigade commander probably told his bosses. If there is a problem and you point that problem out - you are fired for being "incompetent to do your job". Thus ,everyone operates on the principle of "Everything is fine". In most cases the status "combat ready" means the BMP can probably make it across the vehicle park without catching fire. Maintainance and repair is left to the individual soldier's own skills and engenuity cause when you ask for something the answer is "DEAL WITH IT."
>A hose was rotted and you lost all your coolant - well sorry buddy, but you got your allotted quantity for the year
>You have an oil-pan leak - use bath silicone
>You have a broken coolant line - go to the garbage dump, find a rusty steel pipe that would fit and start welding
>Your fuel pump broke - steal one from the logistics company's zil truck in the middle of the night, don't worry it's ok, that Zil has been waiting for a new transmission for the last six months so they won't mind

It's all so tiring

So what's up with the Azov Battalion? Apparently it's an openly neo-nazi militia that operates under the Ukrainian national guard in the Donbas region. I have heard that this was one of Putin's justifications for invading but I haven't heard much about this, really from any source.
Not that familiar, but they seem to be some tiny group of a few hundred (600?) that hate Muslims so they've done stuff like greasing bullets with pig fat they say they'll fire on Chechens coming over to fight.

Edit:
Had seen people suggesting that the bombing at some Holocaust memorial site the Babyn Yar was fake/debunked and they pointed to the statue itself still being up, so feel like it's a bit noteworthy that the area was what was bombed rather than the statue itself. Feel like I've been seeing a lot of fake debunkings.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
What a fucking retard.

You think Russia, one of the most corrupt nations in the world literally controlled by an insane thief who has embezzled billions of his own peoples' money (plus his oligarch pals), is a rejection of globalism???

You have spent so long hating the gay agenda that you will literally side with anyone, no matter how dogshit they will treat you.

  • Soros / lobbyists influencing Washington = globohomo (This corruption is unacceptable!)
  • But somehow oligarchs directly running the country and embezzling billions ≠ globohomo? (This corruption is based because they hate gays.)

Warning: retarded sperging incoming:

Where do you think the money for this stuff comes from? Russia does not have strict money laundering laws, considering most senior government officials get their Christmas bonus via bribes and embezzlement. If dirty money is funding seedy shit like pizza gate, this stuff is most likely coming in from your precious based Russia, not America.

Oligarchs have a shit load of cash stashed away in London and New York to be used for this stuff.

That's right libtard, I'm calling that globo homo pedo shit is in part funded by Russians. Russians are more likely to be involved in globohomo, not resisting it.

And as we all know, it is often the most homophobic politicians who suck the most cock behind the scenes.
Pretending that Ukraine doesn't have the same problem with Oligarchs is retarded though. Whataboutism is stupid,, but Ukraine not only suffers from the same problems as Russia, but it also is facilitating neoliberal corruption too.

I'm just interested to see if this showcase of Russian incompetence would actually reduce the perception of Russia as a threat to the West. doubt it though.

I can't imagine why people wouldn't want to take refuge in Russia when its thanks to a Russian invasion special military operation they were forced to flee in the first place.

It's a desperate attempt to paint Putin as a nazi antisemire, when he really doesn't care and has a decent working relationship with the rabbinate in Russia.

I can't imagine why people wouldn't want to take refuge in Russia when its thanks to a Russian invasion special military operation they were forced to flee in the first place.
Because around half of Ukraine is some form of pro Russian. Outside of Chernigov and Kiev, that's where most of the military action us taking place.

I wonder if the above translates to 'My family and I are looking for sechs.'

I was away on some irl stuff, so I missed some news
A Ukrainian delegation is travelling by helicopter to meet Russian counterparts for a second round of talks, Reuters cites a Ukrainian presidential adviser as saying.

Talks between Ukraine and Russia will kick off in a couple of hours, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said in an online post.

Earlier, Belarusian state news agency Belta quoted chief Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky as saying the second round of talks would start in Belarus at 1200 GMT.

A Russian negotiator has previously said that a ceasefire was on the agenda, but Ukraine has said Moscow’s demands are unacceptable and Russia must stop bombing Ukrainian cities before any progress can be expected.

China has denounced a report that it asked Russia to delay invading Ukraine until after the Beijing Winter Olympics as “fake news” and a “very despicable” attempt to divert attention and shift blame over the conflict.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin also repeated China’s accusations that Washington provoked the war by not ruling out Nato membership for Ukraine, the Associated Press reported.

“We hope the culprit of the crisis would reflect on their role in the Ukraine crisis, take up their responsibilities, and take practical actions to ease the situation and solve the problem instead of blaming others,” Wang told reporters at a daily briefing.

“The New York Times report is purely fake news, and such behaviors of diverting attentions and shifting blames are very despicable,” Wang said. The article cited a “western intelligence report” considered credible by officials.

“The report indicates that senior Chinese officials had some level of direct knowledge about Russia’s war plans or intentions before the invasion started last week,” the Times wrote.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, met his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in Beijing on 4 February, hours before the Games’ opening ceremony. Following that, the sides issued a joint statement in which they declared “friendship between the two states has no limits, there are no ‘forbidden’ areas of cooperation”.

There was also some Bangladeshi ship being struck by a missile or bomb, and an Estonian cargo ship sunk off the port of Odessa

Anyone think it's possible Putin has actually been dead for a few years and replaced with a lookalike that actually serves the interests of the west?

Russia's actions are incredibly stupid IMO, the west has problems, mostly centered around being United as it's society is divided along every line imagineable, national, racial, religious, political, economic, European Countries have been openly discussing leaving the EU, NATO was being talked about in context of being useless and pointless and then here comes Putin with his Ukraine Invasion and seemingly all of those issues - poof - gone. Now every NATO member will up NATO budget, non member countries consider entering it, EU looks to be more united then ever and even general society seems to have forgotten whatever the fuck it was preoccupied with and cheers for Ukraine, Wests economic issues are now far more easily justifiable.

All Russia needed to do was nothing, maybe poke some of the problems West had, maybe pour some gas on whatever unrest the west was dealing with. I don't get it.
