It is inspiring to myself and many of my fellow kiwis to see the West's response to the current situation in Ukraine. What is it that they used to say?
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori. It is a fit and proper thing to die for your country.
Or in this case... Somebody else's country.
Liz Truss, the UK foreign secretary, said "the people of Ukraine are fighting for freedom and democracy, not just for Ukraine but also for the whole of Europe because that is what President Putin is challenging. And absolutely, if people want to support that struggle,
I would support them in doing that."
Isn't it fantastic to see our Western democracies that have been shitting on patriotism and nationalism for years suddenly embrace Ukrainian nationalism and, indeed, encourage our young men to go and fight in a foreign war. Quite the change from what Angela Merkle said a few years back, "Nationalism and egoism must never have a chance to flourish again in Europe.' I'm sure she meant to add
'unless they wear yellow and blue' but she is a daft bitch and probably just forgot. What a change from Canada's reaction to their own patriots just a few days ago as well. Oh well.
I'm sure there is nothing sinister about it.
So what will become of these brave volunteers? I googled it and it doesn't look good, kiwis. This is the actual wording in the Geneva convention:
Art 47. Mercenaries
1. A mercenary shall not have the right to be a combatant or a prisoner of war.
2. A mercenary is any person who:
(a) is especially recruited locally or abroad in order to fight in an armed conflict;
(b) does, in fact, take a direct part in the hostilities;
(c) is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a Party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party;
(d) is neither a national of a Party to the conflict nor a resident of territory controlled by a Party to the conflict;
(e) is not a member of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict; and
(f) has not been sent by a State which is not a Party to the conflict on official duty as a member of its armed forces.
Naturally, my initial reaction was something along the lines of '
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!' but my second thought was... Oh dear. This is yet another provocation in waiting. The Yanks/Brits know the rules. They only
pretend to be retarded. Do they want one of their own citizens executed or sent to a gulag?
Are they really that blood-thirsty?
Surely they're not that blood-thirsty, right guys? I'll just ask my good friend Saddam Huss- Oh no, wait. I mean I'll ask my friend Muanmar al-Gaddaf- Oh, right. Sorry. I mean I'll ask my friends from Hiroshima and Nagasa- Ah shit. Them too.
I dread to think what is next. I don't what is coming but I do know that
if you don't rate this post informative your mother will die in her sleep tonight.
