My pal Mike reports that President Putin issued orders last week directing that his military forces do no damage to any of the four oil pipelines transversing Ukraine, of which three of the lines enter Ukraine from Russia and the fourth enters Ukraine from Belarus.

Mike reports that Putin's military and political takeover of Ukraine would end any money Russia (was) required to pay Ukraine for its pipeline land routes through Ukraine. (The German Nordstream route does not pass through Ukraine.)

Mike reports that a Russian oligarch (unnamed) stressed to Putin that if Ukraine chooses to destroy the four land pipelines in retaliation for Russia's invasion, Russia's continued invasion would be pointless and should be withdrawn immediately because the primary objective of the invasion was use Ukraine as a free route to send oil Westward into Europe, and the two Nordstreams would not be needed afterall, ending all of the politics involved in Nordstream's operation costs and maintenance. The oligarch also warned that should Putin choose to remain in Ukraine after the four pipelines were destroyed by the Ukrainians, Russia would be forced to convert nearly the entirety of the male Ukrainian population into slave laborers to both rebuild the four pipelines as well as maintaining their slave status forever to serve solely as pipeline maintainers. The Oligarch stated to Putin that such a slave-state prospect could never be sustained, even if it was implemented.

I looked up the history of it out of curiosity. Apparently it has to do with being more effective on larger objects and at farther distances. So it might look dumb and ineffective up close, but half a mile away works great.

Russia isn't attacking so much in the places Ukraine is strong and the terrain favors defenders (Kiev, Kharkov) other than shelling, it's attacking in the place Ukraine is weak and the terrain is more open and favorable to attackers (the south)

For all the true talk of Russian incompetence, the biggest mistake of this war was Ukraine not mobilizing reserves and starting a draft until Russia actually attacked. Ukraine had two months to get on a war footing and it didn't. If it had, it would have the manpower it needs now. It didn't, so it doesn't

Keep in mind, the purpose of camo is to disrupt the perception of the shape of the object. We are pattern spotting people, so we innately look for the visual silhoutte of a person. Digital camo makes it harder for the eye to catch that visual pattern.
