At the risk of veering too much into off-topic, I think there are several factors that make me care a lot less about these things: I'm not American so I'm rather disconnected of your 24/7 culture war, plus admittedly I'm a lot more to the left than what's usual on this site (although I'm not a particular fan of American leftism). In my opinion the problem with the US is that the population feels very politically disenfranchised, while at the same time your cultural industries have a completely disproportionate sway on your society compared to the those of the rest of the world. This gives artists, who already tend to be progressive to begin with, a huge incentive to do activism in the only way they think they can.
Though I have to say, seeing how heated ethnic or ideological tensions can get during certain football matches here in Europe makes a few black players kneeling seem quaint. Call me when the audience boos the president or dozens end up in hospital after a race brawl.
Another issue is that Americans (and the Japanese even more so) seem to have a need to disconnect and escape from reality that I haven't quite observed where I've grown up and lived. I think it's the result of an awful work-life balance and a hyper-atomised alienated society, which incidentally is where in my opinion the root of the obsession with identity can also be found. You can see it too in how little impact vtubers seem to have had in Europe, the superchat amounts in euros even for those who stream at convenient hours here and factoring in the matter of English fluency are pitiful compared to our population and wealth.
