As for point 2: for all the talk about “fighting Nazis” over the last six years, that’s what Putin says he’s doing. I’m sure he’d love the help.

You mean that hasn’t happened already?

You’re not wrong about civilians, but how long has fighting been going on? I’d like to think that there are enough abandoned places for soldiers to shack up and camp like it’s Call of Duty.

To be honest, I could not even begin to estimate. It really depends upon how many people had the sense and the means to get out before the Ukrainian cities started to become encircled.

yes, leaving to fight in a foreign war as a soldier of fortune is by definition forfeiting your citizenship in most places.

You can't, as a citizen of nation A, fight on behalf of nation B, against nation C without C being able to declare war against A, at least in first world countries who care.

Otherwise countries would just send over "soldiers of fortune" squads for cash.
It's not quite so simple. A very important thing to consider is that most laws say they may prosecute, not that they shall prosecute and that is quite the distinction. Even beyond the letter of the law there is a lot of practical policy involved. This is allowed to continue to exist to a certain degree because it has to. For a lot of less-legal foreign intelligence it is specifically how they avoid your middle sentence. They are private citizens, short of specifically-named organizations/nations, there isn't a whole lot of proactive enforcement. If they decide to do some war crimes they can be criminally liable, if they wind up dead the government is going to treat it like a citizen getting killed because they decided to murder people. Otherwise they largely wash their hands of it officially. In certain cases there might be legislative/state department directives for specific exemptions. I do not know of any existing for Ukraine so it is more like the situation I described previously.

Sorry for the harsh language, but I cannot help it. The people who are serious about this are nincompoops!
Do any of these dopes realize how difficult it will be to communicate with other people? Slavic languages are hard enough when using a latin script. Cyrillic makes it even more difficult to learn. Ukrainian has the normal и and й, plus i and ї for some reason. It has ґ with the non-deformed г being an "h", I believe (any ukraine dogs can help here?) They could try something like duolingo, but it would be hard with no knowledge and it does not teach important military words or phrases. I do think it will teach you "heads up, faget. btr approaching" in ukrainian.

What would Ukraine even entrust non-nationals with? I would only go if I got a javelin, though it would be hard to get it on the plane back home with me.
What do these people expect to do?
I’m assuming their line of thinking is that they’ll show up, get some assignments translated into English, and then they’ll be left to kill Russians and report about their little war adventure to their Internet friends.

That’s how I’d make sense of it.

So much for the Abe Lincoln Brigades and pre Pearl Harbor fighter pilots in Britain, eh? If these Reddit folks were to learn that they’d just die as nobodies, their minds couldn’t handle its

Don't know if it's a woman or a troon, but it's funny either way. Super admin from their Discord server.

Remarkable that these asshats think that 1) they must die for someone else's country, and 2) literally anything could change the inevitable outcome of the war.
Wacky anecdote on the other side of the coin, I know some people who were raring to go before they found out Ukranians aren't Protestant
Sometimes Darwin must intervene. Survival of the fittest.

I feel bad for Ukraine, I truly do, but I'll be damned if I'm going to fight a war for someone else when I don't really understand the landscape or the culture, can't speak a lick of the fucking language, have NO experience in combat or ANY real training, not sure if I'll be able to get back without massive red tape once the conflict is over, put into a POW position, starved out, host to a whole new wave of COVID cases or other chemical/biological warfare, etc., etc.

This is why I hate Reddit so fucking much; virtue signaling has somehow spilled over into this false physical reality that these armchair analysts believe they can be of help when most of them can barely wipe their asses without getting shit on their hands. Do everyone a favor and stay in your mother fucking lanes, talk bullshit in a toxic one-sided open forum and toss sheckles to make yourselves feel important to a country you couldn't have given two fucks about until it was invaded.

Nope. Fuck that guy. It would be one thing if he was a single, childless thirty-something with nothing else worthwhile in his life, but the fact this guy has a wife and kids who he is abandoning so he can fight in a war he has no personal investment in makes him a massive piece of shit. Imagine being willing to leave your kids without a father so you can go off and become a foreign mercenary, I don't know how someone could do that unless they straight up just don't give a shit about the well-being of their own children. Sorry for getting MATI, but this guy needed to be called out.
You'd think media obsessed bugmen would notice the paralells between this and the movies theyre trying to emulate, except in those, the hero is usually forced into a foreign conflict by faceless uppers, usually by holding the hero's family hostage, or something

In here the motherfucker has left his family by choice to score twitterpoints, jesus christ

There actually was some degree of complication with those pilots in Britain. Not like criminal charges or anything but it's not so straightforward how to integrate them when the US formally entered the war. The US entering the war itself was also a big factor. That seems unlikely here so they are unlikely to have as much US government support.

There's video of Azov and UA national guard units forcing civilians at gunpoint to stay inside buildings they're using for cover. It seems to be government policy to cause civilian deaths for propaganda purposes.

'Nother thing I wonder is if these people realize how poor Ukraine is. Their lives would be miserable even when not eating russian artillery.
Nah, the Ukrainian government just uses the Nazis to combat what it sees as a greater ideological threat, like the Weimar Republic did with the Freikorps. Zelensky and the oligarchs who control the country are Jewish themselves, and not the Mischlings that the Nazis tolerated. Full-blooded, yarmulke-toting Jews.
The government needed the nazis because it had no military before the coup. The original response was the nazis. They led the revolution. They fought the separatists. The US and Europe fags came in after and started giving UA, including the nazi brigades, weapons and training. Nazis were integrated into legitimate military. Now they are super well armed and Zelenstein needs to keep on their good side so they do not revolt. If he agrees to truce that gives up Crimea and the east (LPR and DPR), there is likely to be another coup.
During the recent removal of communist symbols and names, they gave Bandera 34 streets. The love for the past heroes is still pretty strong.

Redditors believe Russia have just let their Nukes fall apart I guess.
I guess the TELs are papier mache...

Holy fuck, those shitheads are out of touch with reality.
It made me remember times in scouts back during the teenage years. How, in comparison, adult we’re all of those young people back there compared to a typical redditor.
It might be a rude awakening for those who actually go to the warzone, but most of them won’t live enough to take the lesson. And knowing Reddit those who would come back/escape will get banned for bringing down the mood trying to warn others.
Call me mati, but how you can get banned on reddit for offending feels, but instructing people how to go to their actual death is brave and cool

On a similar note, I'm also wondering if fighting on behalf of a foreign country won't get you in trouble in your home country. Isn't joining a foreign army seen as some kind of treason in many places?
Not by default, I don't think. Lots of American Jews go over and volunteer for the Israeli army. Some did during the Gulf War.

There's also the French Foreign Legion, and so forth.
