Very true. I've noticed a lot of these "recommended gear" lists are severely lacking in extra pairs of socks and parkas.

It would be hilarious if trench foot became a serious problem for the first time since the Great War because a bunch of redditors don't understand regional climates.

Gear lists look like actual US military packing lists you get. Waffle tops and silkies are more odd military shit you get. Same with them wanting ALICE packs (old military frame). Civilian shit is better quality for most part — this is either LARPing or vet building list from what they knew

The real value of these people is them dying. UA is going hard on the social media war. It has everyone behind it. Getting some American/British/German deaths would get some major traction. I am sure that the government would love to post about 19 year old American murdered by evil Russians. "They are killing your people. Gibs us no-fly zone!"

I am still amazing that anyone would do this. Mercenaries do not get protections of soldiers.

America had to ship most of their tanks over to Iraq, which is slow. Their cargo aircraft could only carry 1 or 2 tanks at a time.

Russia can roll their tanks into Ukraine in a huge ass convoy. It's faster.

The US spent two weeks bombing Baghdad and then faced no resistance at all when they moved in. The Iraqi military gave up when everything started breaking down. The actual fighting did it. Had Iraq's military remained intact, it would have taken much longer even with all the dead civilians.

The result is the same. It's lacking things they will need, and won't be provided by the Ukranians. This is why Ukranian embassies are begging people without combat experience to stop bothering them. I'd go a step further and say that anyone without combat experience in cold climates need not apply. It's an entirely different animal.

The first Iraq War, the US delayed the invasion for months, allowing the Iraqi Army to just naturally fall apart in the desert. General Swartkauf or whatever got a lot of shit in the media for it, but by the time the US invaded, pretty much the entire Iraq army had atrophied. It was a brilliant military move. He won the battle before the first shot fired.

I don't think anyone in the west is planing on deploying troops in Ukraine. Even in best of time, the Russian military has serious flaws and limitations. The lost of SWIFT has killed the Russian economy. Also, Ukraine is still the bread basket for Russia. 60% of the wheat consumed comes from there.

That isn't going to be produced any time soon. On top of this Russia won't be able to trade for wheat or receive food aid. This would be akin to the US leveling the Midwest. And also the US getting kicked out of every trade organization at the same time.

I'm so fucking glad I don't live in Russia anymore.
