During my philosophy A-level, it quickly became very clear that almost the entire reading list was made up of white cishet men. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered Abigail Thorn's Youtube show, Philosophy Tube. As well as theatrical masterpieces showing Abigail's strengths as an actor, she nurtures an intersectional space by citing great thinkers who happen to be marginalized and rarely receive the credit they deserve. Videos such as Violence And Protest, Food, Beauty, Mind and Ignorance And Censorship don't tell viewers how to think. Like any good philosopher, they instead compel us to think for ourselves.

Just over a year ago, Abigail came out publicly via her channel which has amassed over one million subscribers. This instantly threw her into the spotlight as a hugely well-known trans woman. When we speak, I ask how she navigates this new status and the pressure to represent an entire community. "It's not easy being any kind of woman in the public eye, never mind a trans lesbian!" she says. "I feel a lot of pressure to be a perfect princess so as not to upset anyone, which I know is futile. It's a bit like marrying into the royal family: everyone else sees it as a big deal but I'm just following my heart."

In previous interviews, Abigail has talked about how her trans subscribers have "clocked her" before she came out. But I'm curious to find out what the response has been like from her cisgender fans. She smiles. "Overwhelmingly positive, I'm delighted to say! The change in my appearance, especially my voice, was so striking that some more casual viewers thought the show had hired a new presenter!"

Abigail admits that, like many trans people, she worried that coming out would be the end of her career. But she's proven herself as a woman who can do it all. From audiobook narrations to onscreen roles, and the upcoming play which she wrote and produced. She also co-hosts the podcast Kill James Bond, which just happens to be one of the biggest shows in the UK.

Last year it was announced that Abigail will be joining the cast of Django, a Western TV series set to release this year. Whilst she remains tight lipped on what she can tell me about her role, I can sense her excitement. Abigail shares that she couldn't stop thinking about the part after the audition: "I heard nothing for months, then suddenly they said, 'See you in Romania in two weeks!"

I'm curious what it was like for Abigail to be openly trans on set, and how that compared to any expectations that she may have had beforehand. "Django was one of the nicest working environments I've ever been in. Everyone, from the crew to the lead actors, treated me like family. The producers and writers were happy to listen to my suggestions for the character." She reveals, "I was nervous when I arrived. I was the only trans actor and quite junior compared to most of the cast." Abigail shares that, to deal with her insecurities and attempt to break the ice, she kept making jokes about being trans. "Eventually Nicholas [Pinnock, her co-star] said, 'Hey, you gotta stop putting yourself down like that!' He's a saint. I learned so much from him and other actors."

We've come a long way with onscreen trans representation in our lifetimes alone, but what does Abigail think we could do better? "There are more trans characters now, but they're often written by cis writers, so sometimes there are opportunities for interesting story beats or character motivations that get missed. Trans folks have a unique perspective on the world and much to contribute! I'm sure that'll get better in time. That said, I'm conscious of the fact that representation isn't everything - you can't pay your rent or get healthcare with it!"

I leave my conversation with Abigail feeling inspired by her passion for her craft and how it fills her mind, body and spirit. It's been a joy to witness her queering the status quo within the realms of Youtube, philosophy and beyond. I for one can't wait to see her bringing more much-needed representation to the acting world. One thing is for sure there's certainly lots more in store for Abigail Thorn.

*To the best of my ability, a few words were hard for me to make out so it may not be 100% accurate but I believe it's pretty close.

"I feel a lot of pressure to be a perfect princess so as not to upset anyone, which I know is futile. It's a bit like marrying into the royal family: everyone else sees it as a big deal but I'm just following my heart."

This has got to be satire, surely?

So lefty "I'm like a royal",
so feminist " perfect princess",
so philosophy "following my heart".

The only people that vomit will appeal to is cross dressing men. DIVA knows it's target market alright.

Just over a year ago, [Oliver] came out publicly via [his] channel which has amassed over one million subscribers. This instantly threw [him] into the spotlight as a hugely well-known trans [identifying male].

Ooh 1 million. In a world over 7 billion. Yeah, so well-known. He can't even get the TERFs in his own country to pay any attention to him, despite his best efforts.

"I feel a lot of pressure to be a perfect princess so as not to upset anyone, which I know is futile. It's a bit like marrying into the royal family: everyone else sees it as a big deal but I'm just following my heart."

lol he thinks he's Meghan Markle.

[He] also co-hosts the podcast Kill James Bond, which just happens to be one of the biggest shows in the UK.

Wasn't this proven to be bullshit? Like it was briefly ranked high in a sub-sub-category of one streaming service?

Nah. Coogan has taste, and is particularly the sort of person to see through what Tubes doing there like a window;

whatever Ol lie was loitering about in the background of that he was in, will have been strictly as an extra (“worked with” lol, just like Man in Lobby 5 ‘Worked On’ Mission impossible)

He’ll be in some absolutely shit no mark new (terrible) bbc3 one series jobby-
That, or the next series of Ladhood (lol) as I believe that ended on a cliffhanger, and he’s got a space in it already.
I’d be godsmacked if it was anything new tbh, he’s shown his ‘chops’ such as they are, and they aren’t, plus the new face...

RE that he wasn’t able to just say it was Ladhood again- I mean he loves keeping the most boring things hush- but, probably just been told to stfu about everything he’s in as it’s not the done thing to spill the beans on everything you’re in as a minor fucking character.
Coogan knows Ollie would be looking to climb the ladder. If they wanted a minor plot point about trans women (since the show's about gender politics after all) then they might have got Ollie involved for a few scenes. Given Ollie apparently "just finished" on a series and he was recovering from plastic surgery for a while before that (and then filming his face reveal video) he probably was only shooting for a few days, which suggests a small role.

Remember people wouldn't be focusing on Ollie's actual acting ability. The chain of thought would be something along the lines of "we want a trans character" -> "we can only hire a trans person to play a trans character" -> "the only trans actresses I can think of are Laverne Cox and the cast of Pose, and they're Americans and also too expensive now" -> "huh this PhilosophyTube person is apparently mildly famous and works as an actress, I guess she'll do". I mean maybe it's more of an open casting call type situation but I bet Ollie can reasonably expect to be able to audition for any British trans woman character out there.

The interviewer might actually be more soporific than Ollie, which is saying something. It is amusing that Ollie spent much of his time on set making awkward trans jokes leading to his colleagues telling him to shut the fuck up stop being so hard on himself.

"Videos such as Violence And Protest, Food, Beauty, Mind and Ignorance And Censorship don't tell viewers how to think. Like any good philosopher, they instead compel us to think for ourselves" is a funny way of saying "they're aimless rambles with no conclusion".

It was the highest ranking in the "film review" subcategory of Film & TV podcasts on the UK Apple Podcast streaming charts. It's currently #3.

However, it's #25 in Film & TV overall, comfortably behind podcasts like Kermode on Film, Films To Be Buried With and Sofa Cinema Club. I've no idea why they're not considered film review podcasts, especially since Sofa Cinema Club is the exact same format as Kill James Bond (three people watch a film once a week and then talk shit about it).

Thanks for the transcription. Aside from the fact he deigns to describe himself as a lesbian again and gets absolutely zero pushback on that statement, the following stood out to me:

The change in my appearance, especially my voice, was so striking that some more casual viewers thought the show had hired a new presenter!"
He always does this and it never fails to come across as incredibly conceited and calculated. Trying to separate the channel from himself, as if it's some kind of scheduled educational programme like on the BBC. Some other YouTubers do this kind of stuff out of shame and in attempts to suck up to legacy media (Lindsay Ellis comes to mind) and while that's probably part of it, Ollie sincerely means it too.

He's not just some bloke with a YouTube channel where he bloviates about his politics, because there are millions of those. He pathologically has to convince himself he's better than that, more than just that. He's not just a trans woman, he's a trans lesbian (when it's convenient). It's both sickening and fascinating.

I don’t actually believe that gender identity is a thing so in that respect Ol Lie is no less trans than anyone else (there is AGP and there is gender dysphoria, and there is social/medical transition, and there is demanding people pretend you have changed sex even though you haven’t changed a damn thing beyond pronouns).

The thing that makes Chube stand out is his complete inability to come across as even vaguely sincere in his trans-persona.

Compare and contrast to the other transes he orbits, Contra is a car crash, Paris Lees is a former rent boy. All three are men, but I have no trouble accepting that at some point, Contra and Paris have both utterly convinced themselves that ‘womanhood’ was the only option and in their own minds transition was inevitable.

whereas ‘Abi’ seems to have looked at the transes around him and thought, ‘I’ll have a bit of that’.

In the mid 2000s there was a British comedy show about young hipster people in east London - it only lasted 6 episodes and it was always destined to age rapidly because it was centred around the new-world of blogging/vlogging and the rise of media companies like Vice.
It was written by Chris Morris (Brass Eye) and Charlie Brooker (Black Mirror), both excellent at highlighting the absurdity of modern life.
All the characters in it are cringey as fuck but as it was made before the big trans trend began, there are (sadly) no trans characters.
‘Abigail Thorn’ is the smirking, fawning, missing trans character from Nathan Barley

Abigail Thorn is a "self-facilitating media node".

Well damn, that was a quick binge of a show I'd never heard of before but thoroughly enjoyed in a existentially horrified sort of way. Somehow I've now accidentally seen like half of the shows Richard Ayoade has been in lol.

Olly is such a charisma black hole, making both the art of acting and the study of philosophy lesser by his presence. Rise of the Idiots indeed.

He had to restart the stream because he was filming from his apartment and the curtain behind him partially fell down, exposing his apartment (it wasn't interesting, no gimp suits like Contra's basement). He was worried about getting doxed so he just stopped and deleted the stream. I didn't screenshot or anything because I don't hate him like Contra so I don't want to see him doxed.

7:35- Attempts to beat the most recent "Philosophy Tube is copying Contrapoints" allegations. Says he couldn't change the wallpaper on the set that resembled Contra's wallpaper, and he didn't even know that it was there until he showed up and it was too late to do anything about it. He knew people would think it was him attempting to "reference" (i.e., copy) Contrapoints.

9:38- Spoke to a lawyer about bringing up a libel case against The Gray Zone for the article on him, but thought that wasn't the best use of his time or Patreon money. Says it isn't the first time he's been libeled.

36:00- Discusses how the best video on cosmetic surgery has already been made and that was Contra's "Beauty" video. He won't be making a video on cosmetic surgery since he doesn't think he has anything to add artistically. 1:00:10- Says there are video essayists that are better than he is when it comes to writing jokes and putting in joke after joke in their videos. He mentions Contrapoints in particular as an example of someone who is "exceedingly good" at that. Olly says his videos are more serious in tone than Contra, and he just uses jokes as a sort of "punctuation" to lighten the mood of the video.

37:25- Very briefly discusses FFS and how he had to think over it a lot, in particular he was worried about how it could possibly impact trans people that can't afford FFS like he can. 40:10- Says he was still a bit swollen during the filming of Vaccines & Freedom and motions toward his jaw/cheeks? Maybe he did have something done there but we just can't tell yet.

Next video will likely be on (or related to) technology, has already started doing research for it despite filming for a TV show this week. He also has a very big audition this weekend.

They're going to do Kill James Bond live on April 8th in London, if anyone wants to go see him in person. He has a big public event the day after on the 9th, he doesn't discuss what that is though.

5:00- "Transphobes" in the comments are "telling lies" when they say things like his voice doesn't pass.

17:28- Says he finds it almost impossible to be empathetic towards "TERFs.... and transphobes" even though he "knows" a lot of them are coming from a place of "vulnerability, ignorance, and even fear". Finds it difficult to empathize with people who get "suckered into that kind of thing". Quite telling that his first thought was that he doesn't have empathy for feminist women.

27:30- Again says people loved the Human Pussy Virus joke, says the second most common comment was people praising that line even though it was a just throwaway line.

45:10- Discusses the Magnum Opus video idea, it would require traveling to another country and would be hard to film so he can't do it yet but the idea is still there.

53:05- Thanks his fans on his subreddit for downvoting the comments under the pooner schizo's post about how Olly is copying Contra.

1:02:00- Says a trans identified male friend of his that he's been meaning to have dinner with for a long time bought him a bottle of wine and had dinner with him (any guesses as to who he is mentioning?). Also says he might stream more often now that he's able to do so from home.

Whatever he has done to his face has narrowed it and made it way more masculine. Oops.
His voice actually sounds a lot better here when he’s speaking just a shade over a whisper- when he gets louder and less controlled obviously that’s a bust.

Also some of the comments banned weren’t speculating about his personal life- it was all relating to stuff he has posted himself and the direct impression it gave.

Funny though, that he waited for that relatively innocuous rule to be flouted (compared to some of the absolute brutality in the last big Reddit kickoff) before he took action.

Seems like he tethers himself to rules very tightly ... strange.
He could have and should have just banned them all then, they got loads of way more damaging stuff accross than any petty wallpaper beef

His hair looks okay because he has a stylist and, unlike most MTFs, he actually washes and brushes his hair on a regular basis. The bar for MTF hair is on the floor- most of these mfs don't know how to take care of long hair (still using 2-in-1 shampoo, not getting the right kind of products, washing too often or not enough, just pointing a blowdryer at their heads until the hair is dry with no styling or brushing, not brushing it right, frying it with bleach and due and never using protective styles or products). Male hair is thicker and coarser than womens', but it can look lovely and soft and shiny if it's cared for.

His hairline is thinning a bit, so you rarely see him with his hair up without some hair overlapping his forehead. His makeup looks terrible, like something you'd use on a burn victim, but it is better than the standard MTF so there's that. Any credit he gets is nullified by the fact that he has a stylist, however. He should not be looking this busted with a team of people working on him.
Aren't protective styles only a thing for black girls though? Though I do remember the cripple tard "Kylie" having a rat's nest.

Maybe the FFS did some good (in a roundabout way), because he was way less cringe this stream. Hardly any tongue thrusts, minimal deranged laughter, etc. Still some instances but not nearly as many.

Around 50:00 he says he’s never met “Alice” (the Muslim troon) in person. They are planning to do a Kill James Bond live show, so he’s hoping to meet “her” there. He does go into some deranged laughter when asked if there will be a Season 2 of KJB. He says he thinks it’s “Devon’s” only source of income, and then starts laughing and laughing, like he found that funny. I thought it odd. Maybe I misunderstood though, I don’t pay attention to that stupid podcast shit. But yes they plan on season 2.

He says “January” was the most difficult thing he’s ever done. Which explains a lot IMO. Earlier he went on and on about how he “agonized” over the ethics of getting FFS when his fans might not be able to, etc. Which sounds like bullshit to me, but that’s what he said. The FFS was postponed for a year due to the Django show so he claims that he worried about his “audience” the whole time and whether his FFS would basically scar them. Yeah, okay.

There’s kind of a funny moment at 1:05:45, he starts coughing with his real tenor voice, he catches it and tries to feminize his coughs. It must be so exhausting keeping up the facade.

Immediately after the coughing he talks about how “so many” people say “Abigail is so perfect” and how he always trys to “project nice vibes.” It’s too long to paraphrase but he also contrasts himself with YouTubers (possibly Contra) who are snarky and sassy. I didn’t describe it well but he really seems to believe he’s perceived as some kind of Princess. It’s about 1:05:45 to the end if you are curious.

I included a fan art that he showed cause I’ve noticed he gets real spacey when he looks at them, like he’s lost in thought or reveries. “So, yeaaaaaah [tongue thrust].”

Nothing else really stood out that esmeggs didn’t already highlight.

He’s never met his bezzy fucking mate?
Lord, weep.

The fan art drawings are obviously by kids, aren’t they.

Just thought, I was funny that he made a mention of the fact that the ‘bad comments’ had been downvoted by his sub regulars- which is lol because firstly, they had maybe max -4 some of them, but usually no more than 1 or 2 downvotes, and some were upvoted- not to mention the post itself had like a hundred upvotes lmfao AND I bet he checked the fucknutty profile of our Queen❤️, got a face full of Tube art for his trouble.

Secondly the fact he clearly takes note of that is very funny because it means he will have been spiralling as the brutal takedowns after the BTS thread got boatloads of upvotes, lol.

Aren't protective styles only a thing for black girls though?
Not at all! Although white and black hair have different care needs. Protective styles are important for everyone, but lots of white people don't realise this and then wonder why their hair is so frizzy and dry with split ends. protective styles are for situations where your hair may be damaged- friction, heat, over-frequent washing, and things like that (and also any situation where you would tir=e your hair up - while exercising or working with tools for example).
Any style that keeps the hair away from the face and the ends tucked without putting too much pressure on the root or the hair is protective, because it locks in moisture and prevents breakage. Low buns, braids (not too tight, if you're white), anything like that. One of the big ways that hair gets damaged is while you sleep, because of the friction of your head and hair on the pillows. Getting good, high quality pillowcases and either typing your hair back or wearing a satin cap can prevent split ends and flyaways. Learning to protect your hair is not only the best and cheapest way to keep it looking good, it also helps it to grow longer and saves on expensive hair-saving treatments.

Yes, that sums it up, there is something seriously wrong with these men.

There was a very interesting exchange at a House of Commons Equality (UK government) meeting this week, there's a few clips of Equality Minister Kemi Badenoch circulating on twitter and causing rage to the men who have something seriously wrong with them. The last 20 mins or so is illuminating.

They got onto healthcare for TWANZ and it's becoming increasingly obvious that the government and healthcare leadership are simply waiting out this social contagion led demand surge. Kemi stressed her strategy of talking and listening to detransitioners and clinicians.

Untrained GPs are not going to want to add to the pile of damaged detransitioners, and there's a limited number of people willing to work in specialist gender services. You can't force clinical staff to do it. These clinical attitudes create a limit to how much capacity there is for twanzing, not money or government.

Why do they expect the government and health services to run around like headless chickens to give these nasty, hostile men who have completely lost control of themselves, hormones and electrolysis when we would all much rather they get over themselves as soon as possible. The teenage girls aren't much better, but that trend is already dropping off in the referral rates.

The government is just waiting it out. Tolerance has peaked, the stupidity needs ignoring, not encouragement and facilitation. And clinicians don't want to do the work anyway.

So unless they self medicate their own fetish, tough shit.

The only thing cringier than a forced meme is trying to force your own shitty meme. This isn't the first time Olly has replied with that same exact image of himself dressed up like his mother along with a referential quote, as if the character so well known that people will recognize the skit that is being referenced just from that image, and laugh appreciatively at the memory.

When in reality, people are just looking at that photo and thinking "why is this reply guy posting a picture of a transvestite in a blonde wig?"

Stop trying to make fetch happen, Olly.

I'm at a loss for words here. There's something seriously wrong with these men.

Is it at all surprising that someone who has hair as disgusting as his doesn't know what normal hair looks like?

Fucking LMAO. Ok, a few things.

Firstly, this scraggly hair goblin-looking dude has got no business criticising the way anyone else looks like. Like, anyone at all. Much less actual women.

Second, that's pretty telling isn't it? The first thing they go for is the superficial. Because in their minds, all women are is their looks, aren't they? "Woman" is just make-up and dresses, a costume for them to put on (and be way better at "being women" than actual women).

Finally, jfc Olly you're not a meme. Posting pictures of yourself is incredibly cringe.

Good on Gov. Reynolds btw. It's great to see politician's finally take action on this. A lot of us are saying the troon menace (especially with respect to TiMs in women-only spaces like sport), can ultimately ONLY be solved by women banding together and rejecting it. These are their spaces to protect. That photo is heartwarming, because it looks like that's exactly what they're doing. Again, telling that the only way these deranged men can respond is to criticise their looks.
