You know, I was present for the entire Taliban retaking Afghanistan thread last year AND the Israel/Palestine flare-up last year too, and neither of those threads got as testy and, well, hateful as this one. What is different? For this war, I know us typical AnNers are neutral -- maybe SLIGHTLY Russia-leaning (mostly because we're extremely anti-clown world) but the general hate and other users coming in here baiting is intense. I just like to shitpost and make dark jokes while looking at (sorta) news updates during major happenings but here? It's starting to get less fun (which I hate admitting, because I love this thread -- orders of magnitude better than MSM or other websites in terms of discussion, even in it's current state).

Maybe this war is more "real" than the Afghanistan debacle and the Israeli flare ups in 2021? Is half the site Ukrainian and feels like they're about to get genocided? Maybe the fog of war has left only room for speculating and we create internet wars here for content? That's gay but given the notable users and mods who've contributed to the flames, I honestly don't know.

Maybe as the fog of war clears and we get real content, things will clear. But man, the energy here is bad and many users I generally like and proudly shitpost with are going off the rails and it makes me sad. I just want to watch and laugh at clown world like we've always done before...

Honestly, I'd say the split and animosity is because 1. actual guns and 2. neither side is absolutely dominating the other so discussion can be more nuanced.

Also, I'm kind of surprised things aren't more pro-Russia since Ukraine has the backing of the press and Reddit and major companies (and the other ususal suspects) behind them, Putin taking on Ukraine and NATO full stop, and Russia getting sanctioned to Hell and back and forced into a little hole they don't want to be in could be something people like Internet exiles and anti-narrative people can rally behind.

Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.

I know it can be hard to understand sometimes, but understanding why Russia chose this seemingly retarded route =/= supporting vodkaniggers. Bet you 90% of us here wouldn't even want to live in that snow-covered hell. Both sides are losers in this conflict, and I wouldn't wish this on either of them. Ukrainians don't deserve to get bombed, Ukrainian conscripts don't deserve to be propagandized to die for some jew, Russian conscripts don't deserve to be sent into a war they didn't start, Russian civilians don't deserve getting deplatformed off fucking every Western site. On the other, both the hohol's exception government and the entirety of Putin's oligarchic circle all deserve to hang.

I will admit it is getting hard not to see Russia as the underdog here given the full might of the West's soft power being brought to bear to isolate Russia. And the anti-Russian hysteria is just getting deeply concerning.

I wasn't present for any of the other war threads and I think this is the first war I've ever decided to keep up with before. I've been coming here for the majority of the updates because as we all know the media is unreliable and scrolling through this theres a mixture of serious updates and funny memes. But you're right everyone's getting angrier at one another and its harder to see newer information and just generally chill with users who're being optimistic and calmly debating one anothers points.
Maybe its the fact that this war in particular is affecting everyone's IRL lives and being pushed in our face so much by social media but- I hope it mellows out again. I miss the shitty deviant art pictures people find and the actual updates.
