2) It works half assed and we kill 100's of millions and create a giant environmental catastrophe and dead zone rich sectors of natural resources including fresh water.

Apparently a late night show in Russia called 'Evening Urgant' has been suspended after its host Ivan Urgant (who took Israeli citizenship four years ago for those interested, as I know there will be some lol) came out against the invasion. Channel One, where the show airs, has neither confirmed nor denied its removal so far. From what I gather it's Russia's equivalent to Jimmy Kimmel's show.

I'm just being very dramatic with that story but basically we got a manlet who has made it his goal for Russia to never again have a repeat of those events in that late 1980s and early 1990s when the USSR collapsed and the West had a jolly good party over it.

I'm trying to distill the underlying principle behind your condemnation in this particular instance.

Underlying principles are pretty important unless you're part of the Twitter NPC crowd.

My point of my original post wasn't whether the invasion or not was justified. Just that being 'neutral' in a conflict where civilians are being killed doesn't make sense if you care about those people.

I support Ukraine in the sense that I think it's in their best interest to come to terms with Russia as quickly as possible to minimise the amount of death and destruction.

This is a good book on that. It shows some disillusionment that Russians had in the Late Soviet period, while also bringing up idea that many people thought it would last forever. The time period this book takes place in was one the 80s, when American goods were being smuggled into Russia and more Russians were adopting Western customs. It’s actually why you’re able to see Russians in blue jeans when the Soviet Union finally fell. The parts on the propaganda are really interesting too.
