Any idea was it was like in the nation when they fell?
Not good. I listened to a lecture series on the history of Russia and a point that really stuck out in my mind was the guy positively stating "meat consumption in the average diet increased throughout the 1970s and 80s", as if he were describing medieval serfs rather than a society nearing the 21st century.

This is a good book on that. It shows some disillusionment that Russians had in the Late Soviet period, while also bringing up idea that many people thought it would last forever. The time period this book takes place in was one the 80s, when American goods were being smuggled into Russia and more Russians were adopting Western customs. It’s actually why you’re able to see Russians in blue jeans when the Soviet Union finally fell. The parts on the propaganda are really interesting too.

I guess that I should have initially specified the nation in question to be America in reference to, like were there giant parties all around the states.

My bad for the post wording and it is very informative to know regarding internal affairs of the USSR at time of collapse. Gives an idea over the motivation for Putin being an asshole to America.

"When I was ten, I posted rare pepes in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I post them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." - J.R.R. Tolkien
He doesn't post Pepes, fool. He posts Apus.

I'm amazed the Soviet Union lasted into the 1990s while America's military was stronger than ever while curbstomping Saddam Hussein. And more modernized than ever before.

Pure chaos. Russian troops stationed in the satellite states were selling off military hardware for pennies on the dollar, overnight pretty much all of their domestic goods became useless for export, massive inflation, and a shaky government. I know some factories would pay workers in food it got so bad.

Crazy I didn't think it would tank this hard with the contingencies. Buy the dip Putler bots lmao.

The Ruble is a meme currency anyways. No one uses it outside of Russia and even the country itself doesn't want to use and prefers foreign currency. It's just there to make Russians feel better that they have their own currency.
