This is really common in NPD people. They look in the mirror and see perfect, but the rest of the world doesn't see it so, they are victims while being great.

It's like how he demands to explain things to people, if they just listened they could see the diamond in the rough (even though he's not disabled he's kicked his disabilities ass!).

While I hold no pity for him because, well why would you? It must be some kinda hell to live in perma snubbed. We all know that one job we woulda kicked ass at and loved, or that one hot girl/boy who passed etc. That shit hurts and I'd wager mos of us are pretty darn good (at least semi sane) people. It sucks getting passed up for bull shit even to the most healthy people.

Rusty lives that 24/7 not because people snub him 24/7 he's Rusty so he's getting denied because he's a low IQ perv with no skills.

I definitely agree with your take on him and how it’s so common for NPD. Severity of narcissism varies, of course, and Russell is not only pretty severe but the way he expresses it leads him a good bit of notoriety when you consider his disability. If Russell didn’t have the facial paralysis, I think his narcissism would be much less remarkable. There’s a positive correlation between being physically attractive and NPD. So it’s easy to understand when attractive people are a bit entitled. But Russell Is far below average and far above entitled. I would typically expect a narcissist that’s not attractive to simply undervalue physical attraction and instead identify intellect or whatever as the truly superior asset. Russ does some of that by acknowledging his disability impacts his attractiveness but he still thinks with a working mouth he’d be a 9?! The self-delusion is inspiring.

In terms of his theme of “ just let me explain” or “just give me a chance” in terms of his legal cases or getting a date or going on AGT, it would be nice to think that having any of those things happen and him not getting his way would help him see that he is wrong, but it wouldn’t. He would have an excuse or back-up reason why he didn’t win the case or the girl and his ego wouldn’t even flinch. That’s the frustrating part. Even after his two cases are lost, he still won’t think it was him.

He reminds me of a coworker who could not stand to not win in disagreements. If you didn’t agree that his view made sense or was better, you got a slew of emails and calls all to rehash the discussion. He really believed he was right and just needed to explain it enough to be proven right. That’s the typical narcissist most deal with in their work or home lives. Russ does this and then sues you for not agreeing.

Considering just how arrogant he was in his emails to Molly. Considering the comic from the book, that made me think. He has very high opinion about himself, like a celestial or something, operating on different plane than us, mortals. In comic, he's up there in the clouds after all. Obviously, for such a person he can't settle for anybody, and his object of adoration is a valkyrie, another otherworldly being. And when she backstabs him, he fell to the Earth. He has to mingle with us. Such a woe, such a plight! He doesn't belong here. People here are curious how he can say two different things about the same thing. I think he's free from any moral dilemmas because he views almost everyone as beneath him. He shoots for celebrities because he views them as equals. Also, I saw people here claim his low IQ makes his narcissist nature obvious to the whole world. Yea it's kinda true. But I think - Rusty is no different from any other narcissist. He's masking it just like any other person with NPD, he's wearing armor, and shows to the world what he's comfortable with. That would be a blackhole.

Because he views everyone as beneath him, he sees them as pawns to be moved. And because he considers himself smarter than everyone, he doesn't really try his best when he argues. He's quoting stuff he heard before, expecting his listener to behave in certain way. In essence, he treats "I'm a shock jock" "it was anxiety" like a fetch or jump command for a dog. You are supposed to forgive him when he says that. He doesn't really believe it. He does believe that a correct command will cause his listener to behave in certain way. Thus, the irritation when the dog argues back, reminds him of things he said before. Or sheer surprise when a judge decides against him. Judge is supposed to be trained after all!
