There’s some reality based off of this.

In different parts of Africa, after multiple European countries with muskets and supplies came by and dropped them off for the locals to become more civilized, they came back to find them doing a strange pattern and dance in a massive line with the muskets, not shooting with them but using it as ritualistic tool.

They then realized these people were copying the drill instructions of soldiers, medics, and merchants, seeing it as a ritual. They were trying to summon them again, believing them to be either holy people or some sort of spiritual force for prosperity. If not that, then they believed they were conduits of good fortune. And, in a very unintentional fashion, the summoning work and so did the ritual, and during the time they did it they were gifted with supposedly great fortune.

So something like this is rooted in fact and is very cool!
