Interestingly, the Russians seem to be completely avoiding moving into Galicia/Western Ukraine.

They would seem to have their hands more than full at the moment with their current objectives. The Ukraine side constantly seems to expect an attack on Odessa which would be the first logical move into Western Ukraine.
But we don't (IMO) still know exactly what their overall plan is on the Russian side. As people have pointed out in the past, they might be willing to live with a landlocked and economically doomed "new" Ukraine west of the Dnieper. But their actions are not rational and anything is possible.

It's been like 4 days, Big 40 mile convoy has stayed put with some drone strikes on it nothing is moving, the maps that come on the Russian side say Kyiv is practically surrounded, why is there not military action? I would at least expect to see some bombings on the outskirts of the city where there are sandbags and trenches.

My guess is that it's because the minute they go in they're looking at 500-1,000 casualties a day and wholesale slaughter of civilians. Not that they care much about either, but if it turns into a gigantic quagmire there might actually be real trouble for Putin. He's hoping he can bully his way to get what he wants in negotiations.

Its difficult to get any accurate information (IMO) about the fighting in the region around Kiev. There could well be military operations going on and fighting on the edges of the city, but if no one is there to report it or is allowed to report it, it didn't happen.
