It seems the Global War on Terror and the counter insurgencies of Afghanistan and Iraq have really rotted the brains of any intelligible conversation on how a real war is supposed to be waged.
Sure there have been some miscues, random convoys and a company or two of VDV torched, but the fact that Russia has nearly reached the Dnieper River while simultaneously driving on four major axis of advance, kettling the majority of Ukraine’s armed forces in the East and surrounding Kiev, all during the Rasputitsa (muddy season) in just two weeks is astounding.
This is the fastest military advance in modern history, outpacing Iraq 2003, Gulf Storm, Poland 1939, and France 1940.
I think maybe the Mongols advanced further and faster.
We’ll see how the next two weeks go. But it’ll be fascinating to see the other side of the coin when and if Russia ever lets us see their footage and history of the war.
