It's so blatant how much utter contempt America (and other western nations) have for their own citizens. It's not to say that other places in the world hold theirs with a bunch of respect or anything, but it's so ridiculously blatant.

You/your government will:
  • pay more to survive because you "have a duty" to protect the sovereignty of a county most of you can't place on a map

  • face increased competition domestically and globally as you keep importing people (both legal and illegal) and outsourcing work

  • fiercely enforce the borders of other countries and their associated laws

  • import a managerial class to rule over you, often people who belong to very different cultures from yours

  • cheer on and fund foreign citizens who wish to bear weapons for self-defense
You/your government won't:
  • concern yourselves with the fact that it's harder to make a living and create families

  • be made the priority in your own country unless you meet certain diversity standards/quotas

  • fiercely enforce your border and its associated laws

  • invest in your own citizens and attempt to keep some kind of coherent identity to the country

  • support your wish to own and bear arms for self-defense; will work to strip you of gun rights and try to call you a domestic terrorist if you hold certain anti-government beliefs

I feel so much contempt for the Syrian men who have fled and have left their families behind in a warzone. Everyone says he would do x and y before a war - I myself too - but when a war starts, everyone shows his true colors. However, I do not think I would leave my family behind if I fled a conflict.

The men aged 18-60 (someone correct me if I'm wrong) aren't allowed to leave. Edit: Unless they are foreigners, of course.

It's women, children and elderly. Over 1 million came to Poland during last 2 weeks, not counting Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Moldova.

Supposedly (but this is shared by 'activists' who are as credible as your typical journoscum), there have been cases of people dying from exhaustion on the crossing. We're in for a major crisis: humanitarian, economic and social.

Great post. I wouldn't wish this specific psychological torment, and existential malaise a lot of Americans have to experience today, on my worst enemy. Many people won't make it through without giving up and killing themselves. I don't consider it a funny thing. For others, it's not so bad and maybe even great.
