I doubt it will come to it, but Russia does have the mother of all dirty bombs available to it with Chernobyl. Really any nuclear station, but Chernobyl being at a tributary of the Dnieper makes it the best choice for scorched earth.

I believe the main reason Russia is even doing this invasion is an effort to get a more defensible border, so if the invasion becomes too much of a clusterfuck then why not just make the entire region uninhabitable?
