This is like a fish complaining about air pollution. He’s not a member of the FGC and hasn’t been for years, an exile self-imposed because he’s terrified of other human beings. He is not a video game commentator or journalist. He is not a developer. In point of fact he openly hates video games. He is not an EVO organizer. He does not talk about EVO when the event is actually going on. He is as insulated a human being can possibly be from anything outside his four walls without being bedridden in a hospital. A person who watched one match from one game played at EVO last year has more reason to comment on the lineup than he does. He is not affected by this in any way whatsoever. This is a man screaming hot air into an uncaring void expecting the universe to pat him on the head for it.
Did evo need an injection of new content and hype when phil was there playing a 10+ year old game?

This is all to say nothing of the fact that Phil's complaints could be applied to his own streams, where he keeps running from new games by re-playing old ones no one asked for, like fucking New Vegas, Skyrim, and Mass Effect. And then suddenly sticking to Elden Ring like a fly to shit for reasons he refuses to be honest about.
He's not even "average". Dying 60 times to Crucible Knight is not normal - it's the most straightforward boss I think I've ever seen. He didn't actually improve as a player; guides for these sorts of games simply became more accessible, and he's become more willing to use them. He's gonna know every single cheeseable mechanic in every single boss fight. He's gonna know where every boss is and how much he needs to overlevel in order to facetank them. His intial DS1-DS3 playthroughs were all truly blind (save for chat); he started reading guides during the redemption runs, probably because the YouTube comments telling him how much he sucked got under his skin.
If it doesn't play exactly like Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the PS1 then it's broken garbage made by brain dead developers who don't know how to make a fighting game, duh.
I've noticed this is kinda a thing on Twitter.... If someone doesn't like said franchise or whatever they say its dead or the player base is dead. You see this with online based games quite often.
100% agree, though 2D seems to be king (small tekken bias as that's what I personally play) but all of those games communities are well represented and make for a good event.
And, even if the game plays exactly like the Street Fighter 2 Turbo terrible port, it's not guaranteed that he's going to like it. Because if the game's match making doesn't just put him against scrubs constantly, it's also a terrible unpolished piece of garbage, with a shitty netcode and lazy developers.
It gets better when you realize that it's bullshit, and Phil is just resorting to ANYTHING to avoid admitting that he's taking detractor advice by sticking to a game until it's done for once. I mean what other explanation is there? It certainly won't be one that he asserts, and this isn't normal for him. He doesn't even do this when a game is reliable for tips, he just milks it by keeping it in the rotation while dropping other things that aren't so reliable. This is different, he's either running from something else or finally listening to us while not ever wanting to be caught dead admitting it. And I don't see anything for him to run from.
Phil has no ability to appreciate that, and I think he knows it and gets triggered by how much fun everybody else has with games more complex than what he can handle. I would feel sorry for him if he weren't such a selfish bastard who would never, EVER return the favor for anyone. Everyone knows what it's like to feel left out, frustrated, and inadequate. But Phil doesn't deserve any empathy because unlike most people, he'll never HAVE empathy himself.
A fact which he clearly hates, despite his efforts to deny caring. Phil wants very much to be a respected member of the FGC, so he can flex on people with that, like he dreamed of doing twenty years ago. He just happens to know, to an uncharacteristic degree, that that is never going to happen, and instead of accepting it, he bitches. Forever.
