That's not how national debt works. They are on a fixed schedule for payment, there is no "calling" to do. As a nation we exist in a state of "positive carry" where it is more valuable to have borrowed/continue to borrow to fuel growth now vs. paying it back later. Short of the nation ceasing to exist, there are few real-world situations where this could feasibly happen. This is due to the way US debt is sold. Like I said it's a fixed term, it's also a fixed amount. When the US borrows money it issues a bond of say $100K payable, 10yrs, 0% interest. Since money now is almost always more valuable than money later, these are purchased at some amount below face value, $100k in this case.

Beyond that, even if we were to ignore the way things work and imagine Uncle Sam does get the metaphorical call, guess who they'd be paying to? For the most part that would be US citizens and investors. Considering the "lenders" would be most effected by the default there is natural motivation for something to be worked out before it becomes catastrophic. Losing the petrodollar would be calamitous, just not this specific risk.
