This is why I refuse to get an electric car. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am certain that the parts from them can arguably cause more damage to the environment compared to your modern day gas car.
I think over the middle term it "breaks even" and then winds up being a net "win" by the end of the vehicle's serviceable lifetime, assuming the vehicle stays in service for the full service life of the battery and gets replacement batteries to stay in service when the first battery fails instead of being scrapped or mothballed. That may only apply to hybrids though since they use smaller battery packs than the all-electrics do and they tend to be gas sippers. For all-electrics, it may take an unrealistically long service life to actually break even. I don't think battery technology is quite there yet to make them net-green within a few years of their manufacture (solar panels have the same problem).

One advantage of gas/electric hybrids (like the Prius) is that they're built to take absurdly good care of the traction battery. The console shows the driver a 0-100% charge range, but in reality the system never lets the cells drop below about 40% and a "full" charge never exceeds about 70%. The gas engine will start up to both power the wheels and recharge the battery whenever needed to make sure the battery never drains too low. The car is also smart enough to automatically disable regenerative braking when the battery is maxed out (i.e. 70%) and you're on a road/highway with a lengthy down grade (i.e. a coming down from a mountain pass). It'll just rely more on the traditional brakes (braking power isn't impacted by this). That also helps preserve the battery's life.

As a result, there are Priuses out there that are 15+ years old and still running on their original battery. My third-gen was 11 years old when I traded it (for a Prius Prime plug-in hybrid -- god am I glad I did that last fall; getting 250 mpg right now) and a third-party diagnostic tool estimated the battery still had about 45% of its useful service life left and its fuel economy never dipped for as long as I owned it.

As for Teslas and other all-battery vehicles, I don't know enough to judge for sure. The Prime's traction battery is 8.8kWh; the Teslas range from 85kWh to 100kWh, which is a fuckton more. Easily ten times as many cells and there's no question that takes up lots of "only available via environmentally unfriendly means" materials. I don't know how good their power management stuff is either or how well they "take care" of the battery on the road or on the charger.

It's also pretty pricey to fully charge those things. One estimate suggests recharging a modern Tesla from empty to full costs about $12 if your home electricity rate is $0.12/kWh. Then they compare that to the cost of running a regular gas-powered car that gets 25 mpg and conclude the Tesla's per-mile driving cost is 63% lower.

Line that up against a plug-in Prius though (which only costs $1.20-ish to recharge and averages 103 mpg in mixed short- and long-range driving, the Prius is cheaper per mile. If you're doing mostly in-city driving, you'll end up like me getting 250+ mpg instead, which blows Tesla out of the water. Even without charging, it gets about 50 mpg, which remains pretty competitive, especially when you consider even the high-end trim Prius Prime costs about $10k less than a Tesla.

Ted Turner's SJW hardon for Captain Planet and the hatred for masculine violence bundled with that philosophy led to the death of Swat Kats. Which was the highest rated show in it's time slot and demographics, a potential media gold mine. Look at this:

It had jets, guns, killer robots, heavy metal, masculine (cat)men kicking ass and saving damsels, a memorable rouges gallery, toyetic elements out the ass (the vehicles alone...), great animation quality, design and writing. The show had it all, and could have spawned an empire to rival TMNT if it hadn't been killed by Ted Turner so he could push Captain Planet.

Fuck Ted Turner and fuck globohomo, they ruin everything.
Fuck I loved that show and had no idea it was killed by corporate. I just assumed bad time slot.

Some of my neighbors have been putting blue and yellow ribbons on their mailboxes. I don't even need to ask them why blue and yellow ribbons. It's like everyone sperging out about BLM two years ago; normies getting latched onto causes because it's the thing to do, I suppose.
So glad this virtue signaling will save Ukraine!

I hope someone steals all the Ukraine donation money like BLM leaders did.

Hey guys in this thread let's not do the thing where we notice that page numbers are similar to the dates of historical events. We already did it in the last thread anyway... and every thread before. I'm sure our loving tyrant @L50LasPak will agree. Since he's threadbanning people for everything else, he might as well threadban people for something that is actually a waste of time.

:semperfidelis:
Anyone who posted in the Kyle Rittenhouse thread could tell you that i actually don't consider this a bannable offense, but I've had it with you.

In that way where you know it's lame but you watched it anyways because you're a kid and you're not picky about what's on.
And even then you make fun of the guy whose power ring gives him the ability of "Heart" instead of blasting people with fire.
If it was a brainwashing power, that would be cool. "Put the gun to your head. Pull the trigger." I'm guessing it was something a lot lamer than that though. (If I were put in charge of a reboot of Captain Planet, that's totally what Heart would do though.)

And Nick Fuentes would be super happy at all the gay furry catboys it would create

Gives you an incurable heart condition that'll cause you to have a heart attack in the next 1-5 years. The villains turn into anxious wrecks waiting for the inevitable to come, unable to focus on anything besides their mortality.

No, it had a great time slot and was amazingly popular. The problem was, just like so many properties today, is that Ted Turner was mad about the viewers liking the wrong thing. He hated the 'violent' and 'graphic' nature of SK, and though it taught the 'wrong lessons' to kids (like opposing evil and being brave and saving your friends is good or something, instead of genociding the population and going to primitism to save the planet or whatever.)
Essentially, he said;
Why are the most profitable demographic of young boys and teens fans of this violent show and not Captain Planet! Why would they like action and adventure and bravery and danger! Fuck them, I'll cancel it and give them no choice!

Someone at work did it to his avatar in our work chat app. My thought was, "Of course it was him." It wasn't the guy with the actual Ukrainian wife, either.

Nobody wants to take your guns
Nobody wants to rape your kids
Nobody wants to replace you
Two weeks to flatten the curve
Fiery but mostly peaceful protests
Most successful airlift ever

"Nobody wants to send you to war!"

No one is asking Mitchell or any other American to fight in Ukraine, and there is no obvious path to doing so: the United States has not engaged any forces in Ukraine (at least overtly), and there’s certainly no call to conscript civilians to do so. Mitchell is righteously indignant about something that has no real prospect of becoming reality.
Who is? Who accused him of treason? Carlson’s jumped from “people like you” to “you” in order to amplify the idea that Mitchell represents a broad, oppressed mass of people who the elites are trying to cajole into engaging in a shooting war with Russia.
Up yours with a burning cactus, Philip Bump. These coy little denials are insulting.

Because the majority of social mass are retarded rando-brando, they give no shit about high matters such is nuclear physics and nuclear physics oriented engineering, operations with dangerous materials et cetera.
Besides the Chernobyl and Fukushima cases have born a literal boogeyman in minds of people that, if any nuke plant went boom - it's a big game over for the world overall. No, it's just a temporal setback in research, implementing the nuclear energy into daily energy provision routine. The real con here is, if such thing will happen (the boom, I mean) the area around the plant will be dead for a good while.

Krokodil is a hell of a drug, my friend.
Disagree. Nuclear plants can't turn into thermonuclear weapons. But an intentional release radioactive material could turn a nuclear plant into the world's dirtiest bomb.

If Chernobyl had happened and the Soviets took active steps to make it worse (letting the fire burn uncontrolled, letting the core melt into the pool of water on the floor so it caused a steam explosion, doing the same thing to reactors 1-3, etc, the exclusion zone would be the size of Ukraine and one of Europe's breadbasket regions would be irradiated. A moderate famine would result. The only thing preventing a severe famine in Europe would be food imports from north and south america.

I'd believe it since Captain Planet was basically what you watched if nothing else was on, and explains why I vaguely remember it popping up in time slots in place of shows I actually liked to watch.

I think we just identified the fatal divergence into Clown World Timeline.
