I'm well aware of the origin of "No True Scotsman," but something having a name doesn't mean it's not prone to misuse.

First of all, the "No True Scotsman" fallacy is a type of equivocation (specifically, the type of equivocation that involves redefinition), so "No True Scotsman" is a pointless renaming, mostly used by pretentious internet types. Say the fucker is equivocating. That was good enough for Shakespeare (see Macbeth).

Second, it is prone to misuse because it is mostly employed in cases where the disputed term is far more ambiguous than "Scotsman." A Scotsman is a man from Scotland. The definition of "transgender" is ambiguous because it is not defined by geographical location (an objective thing), but by how a person feels, which is highly subjective.

Also, learning logical fallacies does very little to "clear up" one's thinking, especially when one does not learn logic in general and simply memorizes a list of fallacies without understanding why a certain type of argument is fallacious. I see this all over the internet, with people selectively and incorrectly using the names of fallacies to dismiss arguments illegitimately.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows what the "no true scotsman " fallacy is.

In this thread, people are debating whether the cow is a tranny, not (just) because they think he gives trannies a bad name, but because he may not fit the actual definitions of trangenderism, seeing as he sees feminisation as part of his humiliation/"sissyfication" kink rather than as a way to alleviate dysphoria.

Oh no of course... Forgive me if I seemed to imply otherwise. Obviously people need to understand WHY something is fallicious before throwing out fallacy names. I'm just saying, the fallacies themselves are good catagories and can at least help someone start learning, if nothing else.

There's a distinct difference between sissies and trans. Sissies are driven by sexual urges, trans people are driven by gender dysphoria. It's convenient for people to adopt the trans label to justify their fetish, but that's not actual transsexuality, as appears to be the case here. To be honest I'm not even sure why there's any kind of debate as to whether or not Paul (I'm not calling him "Stefonknee" because that's retarded) is trans or not. The dude straight-out refuses to take any kind of hormonal therapy because it might interfere with his awful fetish. Not to get too personal, but my doctor even says that trans people who are legitimately concerned about their sexual function still take hormones, albeit at lower doses so they can monitor the icky details and adjust accordingly.

I mean you can debate all you want as to whether or not something like dysphoria is a requirement for being considered transgender, but even then most trans people (outside of your typical tumblr "transtrender" types but who cares about them) at least make some kind of token effort towards obtaining hormone therapy since that's kind of the whole point.
