One geopol wonk I discovered from polandball videos (by brain4breakfast, God rest his soul) is Peter Zeihan who bet on a world in which America remains powerful but absent from global affairs due to the fact that America has energy and food. So shipping lanes can fuck right off. Around the end of 2020, he wrote an article stating that the various Dem factions will basically mean that Biden is the last win for them in a while.

It seems his predictions are coming true - but in a weird and distorted way. America's foreign misadventures look to be on a course of contraction, but I'm sure no one imagined the absolute shitshow that unfolded in Afghanistan.

Biden certainly looks to be the last win, but a last win doesn't necessarily equal implosion.

I bet he didn't see all the shenanigans with American domestic production and pipeline cancellation. If anything, his predictions mean the Arabs become less important, but we have news of America asking them for more oil.

What a kino world we live in.
I'm surprised any of you think the dems will ever lose again. They can just cheat their way with no consequences.
Price has jumped another 20 cents since Sunday evening. We are getting past $6 per gallon before the month is out without question.
If my new job wasn’t way closer to my house I’d be tearing my hair out.
Above about $5/gal and it becomes worth looking into alcohol conversion and setting up a still. If it were possible to acquire crude oil as a private person I'd want to set up a CatCracker on principle (who doesn't want to boil some gasoline?). I'm not going to set out to do damage but I promise Innawoods Refinery is probably not going to be as clean/efficient as what we currently have.
Laughs in Canadian.

Cries in Canadian.

remember when not wanting kids to be molested was a bipartisan issue?
No. It was always on the leftist docket. NAMBLA was openly on the forefront of gay pride back in the day.
It's too late for you people. I'm sorry. Perhaps you could make for interior Alaska? I'm afraid the lower 48 are slam full.
If I wasn't white I'd try to sneak a few miles down to Idaho.

I believe I've said it before in this thread but I'll say it again. If you want to get rid of corruption you have to make being a politician painful. Make it so they are not allowed to live in their own homes and instead have to live in a shack, make it illegal for them to buy anything for themselves or family, and make it so after leaving a position they are legally required to be homeless for at least 5 years.
You're absolutely correct from a philosophical standpoint. Power over the lives of others should confer the most profound burden of responsibility imaginable. I will again say this vaguely for PL purposes to anyone reading this who is feeling despair over how things are currently going: there yet remain people out there (myself included) who very much take this duty into our hearts completely.

Seeking to have power over others without much real oversight, as police and politicians do, should be virtually immediate disqualification from having it. I wonder if you made them live like monks whether you'd just get fanatical true believers though, people will do awful things in the guise of the "greater good"

When we were owned by Britian, you weren't paid as a politician. It would force only the rich to be politicians since they had the capital to do it while not working, but with current forms of lobbying, it couldn't work. It may even make them more suseptable to bribery.

Peter Doocy goes 4 minutes on Psaki, calls out the "Putin Pump Price" and all the lies Joepedo said yesterday about shrugging and drilling here. They're in a corner but can't admit to anything but just broad things, but you can tell Psaki thinks she's so smart with "you tell mes"

  • Start every press conference huffing farts
  • Gets uppity when a reporter dares to do their job
  • Smugly chuckles it off at first, gives a back-handed response
  • Reporters don't back down, at most they decide to go for blood
  • Loose your cool and go full on bitch mode, make yourself look like an ass as people go "wtf was THAT all about" for the 3458976389634th time.
It's literally the same playbook. Everytime she gets on that podium she makes herself to be more of an unlikable cunt. This woman should have called it quits a long time ago.

Really fucking wish someone with dirt on Colbert would just fucking come out already and put the proverbial bullet into his career and end it already.
That only happens when they're no longer useful. Tons of Daily Show addicts pivoted to The Late Show because even they can't really pretend that Trevor Noah is actually funny.

If it's Russia's fault, that makes it the administration's fault. They couldn't contain Russia and had no countermeasures in place for Russia going for the Donbass region and trying for more. Not even just offensive countermeasures, just defensive countermeasures so that this wouldn't harm Americans as badly as it is harming them. The only plan was a bunch of sanctions that hurt America and Europe maybe even worse than Russia after the Russian military was in Ukraine with just, "Trust me, this won't economically rape you". Then we all got economically raped. Great. Russia Expert "Adults in the Room" are a month away from letting Ukraine go East Germany/West Germany and that'd be best case scenario.

So no, I'm not buying that this is all Russia's fault. Only Biden superfan cultists, all 5000 of them, believe that. They're not going to skate. Everybody knows "Biden did that" and is saying, "Thanks Joe Biden" so hold that L like it is your favorite ice cream cone, baby.

Their genius plan involves begging Saudi Arabia for oil...while giving Iran money and begging them for oil contracts, too. Don't these geniuses know Saudi Arabia and Iran despise each other and the middle east and north africa has been a fight between Saudis, Israelis and America and its allies and Iran and Russia and China for hegemony over MENA?

One of Zeihans biggest flaws in his thinking is he assumes that most of the people in charge of the US are both capable and rational, and they definitely aren't.

It's a product of where he came from imo, neoliberal academic circles, perhaps some glowie ties to boot. But he often professes himself as a globalist, so you get what it says on the tin.

Zeihans macro geopol stuff tends to be solid and well reasoned, his American politics stuff though can often be rather batshit, with Giga-brain takes like "Biden is just Trump but competent" (Although it was mad funny to read his newsletters over the course of a few months and gradually watch him get more and more depressed over the Biden admin)

Even if most of his takes are mostly your standard neolib takes with expectation that globalism is already over and we're just watching it die.

Reuters gives Biden a +2 bounce coming out of the SOTU. Interesting because they polled 4 more Democrats, 20 less Republicans, and 18 more Independents from the previous poll. Interesting stats, from the previous poll Biden's support is Dem +3, Ind -3, R+7. So either they got a high percentage of neocons who voted for Biden already, or people are fucking with the results. Him dropping 3 points with Independents coming out of the SOTU, and this is 3 polls so far I have seen this, that is really bad news for Biden.

My job involves working with government agencies at a senior level and the Biden administration is without a doubt the most ideological administration I’ve ever dealt with and my experience started with Dubya.

Obama’s administration was neoliberals pretending to be progressives (until the final couple years); with Biden’s administration it’s progressives pretending to be neoliberals. Lots of senior staffers and advisors who are pedal to the metal on every pozprog initiative you can think of. They live by Rahm Emanuel’s quote about never letting a crisis go to waste where every setback is them doubling down.

It’s truly remarkable. There are entire divisions of government that are unable to do much of anything because it’s chock full of ideologues who have never handled real responsibility before. The Department of the Interior is an example. Deb Haaland is shockingly inept at her job, unsurprisingly.
See, up until now had the opposite impression. I kinda thought the Biden admin was comprised primarily of neoliberal establishmentarians with zero principles beyond what could potentially make them richer as individuals. I assumed all the progshit was being done cynically to distract voters from their more insidious policies, and despite the illusion of cohesion present during the first months of Biden's term, it quickly became public knowledge that there's been nonstop infighting between Democrat factions since Day One.
