I'd say part of it is money and part of it is biology. Some men will have an easier time minimizing their masculine features, this is particularly true of Asian men who aren't as likely to have the pronounced jawline and evidence of facial hair that is a dead giveaway. It seems like a lot of men who try to transition seem to be the very ones who have those features that are difficult to hide. I don't think it helps that there is a level of delusion similar to how someone with an eating disorder will see something appealing in their starved reflection whereas anyone else would be horrified. Someone like that is not going to be able to present themselves in a way that is convincing to others.
