Inactive Andrew Dobson / Tom Preston / CattyN - STOP DOING SEXIST CRAP

This is a perfect example of how coddled he was. For his mother and aunt to do this to protect his fragile ego was a mistake. Sometimes you need to let your children fail if only because that serves as a valuable lesson for them in the future. Since he never got to eat the cost of those unsold comics, he learned nothing, not even a chance for self reflection as to why he failed.

Another thing that always struck me as a sign of his coddled upbringing was that he was always presuming and flaunting about his expensive Apple hardware. There is no way he earned the money to buy such overpriced 'pro' equipment from his shitty art. He got that stuff gifted to him, he didn't have to struggle to earn it. As an amateur he did not get to experience what is to start up with cheap or second hand equipment and work his way up doing his best to recoup cost of that first investment. There is no struggle, no challenge.

These kind of formative experiences provide perspective and focus, a desire to improve, humbleness even. Instead he had every advantage handed to him and he squandered it all because he had no real concept of the value and sacrifice those things entailed.
Considering how he's always been whiny everytime he faced any challenges, he probably would have given up before any of us found him.

That may have actually been good for him.

Absolutely.

When a child fails, it gets sad, angry or pouty. It learns to deal with disappointment and maybe just learn to try again, try again harder. At least it learns to cope with failure.

As an adult that never had to deal with failure, you don't know how to deal with your own frustration, you don't learn the courage to try again.
And the result: You become a Dobson.

I totally agree once more.
It's absolutely fine to receive something as a gift, but Dobson never appreciated the value of something, so he treated it like a toy, never really pushed himself to use it to its full extend cause he neither earned it nor as a means to rationalize "I bought this expensive equippement, I need to get my money's worth!".

There was this one series of dA blog posts, where he talked about how he had to use some old animation programm and that this was the reason why his works were worse than those using a more modern one. He insinuated that he'd be more capable at using that better software than the others if only he had access to it and claimed that he'd make some really breathtaking stuff, cause it is so easy and convenient to use.
Then he got it and boasted about the amazing things he's going to pull off.
Then he posted about how he'd take some time to get the hang of things cause it is different.
Then he posted about how hard it is to get the hang of it and we never heard of it again.

It's rather obvious, he tells his parents "I could be an amazing, successful artist, if only I had this one thing!" so they buy it for him and ... and he uses it in a rather shallow manner, cause it was free and he didn't have to really give up time and money to obtain it. His parents don't know, they expect he's using it and hoping he'll eventually become a great artist, but he never did.
And here we are now.

And maybe that’s why he vanished. Momson and Dadson locked the beast away from the world to see.

It's pretty obvious that his parents pulled the plug. They paid for everything and Dobson at no point in his life had enough stable income to take care of himself, they always had to pitch in. At best, there might have been a phase during his college days or right thereafter, where Dobson was financially independent due to part-time-jobs and so on... but it might as well be that his parents still supported him with some money.

It's not hard to imagine that his parents told Dobson to get a grip and take some mundane dayjob, cause his career as an artist clearly didn't work out.

Thing is, a few years ago, I thought Dobson could still turn his life around if he went offline for half a year, during which he sits down, ignores social media, busts his ass to improve his art skills and maybe reads some classic literature for inspiration.
He's been gone so long, if he had spent at least some of this time in improving his skills, broadening his horizon and coming up with story ideas, he could have his big comeback.

But that would require effort and he wouldn't be in this situation if he wasn't so prone to laziness.

Had Dobsoy still been online, we would've seen much lulzy salt from him about supporting lockdowns, wearing masks, denying any election fraud, demonizing the "vaccine hesitant", A-Logging the Freedom Convoy, and whatever the soy view of the Ukraine-Russia situation is.

Whatever happened to shut Dobbo up must've been related to the "New Normal" starting. Maybe it was because he was cooped up with his parents a lot more, and they wised up to Dobbo's internet misadventures then like others have guessed?

I Remember that dobbo got a 3d printer and thought he could get money from it by making a patreon for it.
He made a few things, but as far as i Remember they where things like boxes and wals for d&D or some shit.
He never got a patreon.
He never mentioned it again.

We certainly missed out on some top notch premium content during 2020 and onwards.
The Shanghai Shivers, BLM protests, Kenosha and Kyle Rittenhouse just to name a few highlights of 2020. The storm on the capital on January 6th also.
I would love to know Dobson's hottake on the Ukraine conflict.

It wouldn't be some NATO BAD PUTIN GOOD shtick (like you find on the Alt-Right), I guess, since Putin is hated by Dobsoy's gaggle of SJWdrones, but we'd get some amazing shit akin to "something something toxic masculinity is to blame something something old white men."

Yeah. He made some Zelda-room thing with tiles that can be switched out. It wasn't terrible tbh. But it never amounted to anything ultimately.

Maybe the failure of his own patreon was too fresh in mind, when he asked people if they'd pay him money via patreon, expected like a thousand bucks a month and then barely (lol) made it past the 100bucks mark.

How old is this individual?
40 this year. He's about the same age as Chris Chan afaik.

It was pretty decent for what it was: Build your own 16-bit Zelda room. Granted he didn't actually have to design anything and had tons of work to crib from, but the result was good (provided you wanted to paint and then build your own plastic Zelda dungeon room).
If he'd have put in a little work, he could have turned into a fun "Traffic Jam" clone (where you slide the cars around to get the red car out).
But that would have taken work.

I take it Dobbo even stopped being active in Minecraft online.

(If you go back to page 1000 to 1002, you can see he was really into it.)
His Minecraft safe-space was always Private, it not being public today doesn't really represent that much of a change.
For all we know he's still adding more hamburgers and blocky recreations of his own OC's in that bubble to this very day.

wait wat

(figures Dobbo would have fast food stuff in the safe space)

Sorry for the lo-res, but yea, I'm not kidding, he created gigantic McDonalds items in his fake blocky ego-dungeon.
Reminder that at the same time he was dumping massive hours into this safe-space, he was sperging out on Twitter about every little political headline, while also complaining about not having enough time to improve his art skills.
"bullying from trolls" only goes so far when Dobson was always his own biggest obstacle

It's like "Pooh's Adventures" in low-res voxel form.

Or like the 3DCG equivalent of just a table full of "Pixelblocks" models of stuff he likes.

It's a Dobbo happy place alright.
It's like the Asylum Films knockoff of Ready Player One.
Shame he basically shut out the public.
Seeing Mayberry defaced with 3d giraffes and bike pumps would have been the post-modern version of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

I thought it was kind of neat and actually considering getting into 3-D printing myself as a result. Real life stuff got in the way though. I wonder; if Andrew Dobson knew that he actually brought a spark of joy and inspiration into someone's life, but that someone was one of the hated Kiwi Farmers, would he consider that spark a small triumph over a hated enemy... or seethe about it, and try to snuff it out?
