Eisenhower himself told high command how the Japs were ready to surrender before dropping the bombs. Mutts just wanted an excuse to use their new shiny toys so they could flex to the Soviets and the rest of the world (which only lasted until 1949 when the Soviets got their own bomb, whoops lol).
But it seems that the American mentality of "War crimes are OK as long we're the ones doing them!" helped them sleep at night.
There wasn't unanimity even after the bombs fell. Perhaps the Emperor unstuck matters. Without the meme shock of the bombs, the matter could've have required invasion. Shocking and showing off to the Soviets was useful too, a two in one.

Related to this war I wonder if something (sort of) big and shocking like an Odessa landing is in preparation. A slight armoured thrust towards Kyiv seems like a measure to keep the Ukies on their toes. If it had worked, RU might have pushed against the Kyiv suburbs.

Alright, schizo/tinfoil hat theory coming right up, so hang in there for a second.

I've been reading this thread and came to a stupid conclusion/theory: What if Putin's main goal for the war wasn't Ukraine but instead making all these companies leave Russia, claim their factories and then create their own national brands? All while Vlad tells the Russians how "the evil western companies abandoned Russia to side with the Ukes, so we now need to buy our own products to support the Motherland".

Sure, the products quality might be as shit as China's but at least they won't have to rely on foreign companies that much.

/schizo theory
could have just done that without the war though

Correct me if I am wrong but don't a large portion of Russian speakers in Ukraine have either dual citizenship or residencies with Russia? Not exactly a good move but retards will defend it because they think Ukraine is 101% ethnic Ukrainian.
Dual citizenship in unconstitutional in Ukraine but it isn't well-enforced.

A large portion of permanent residents of Ukraine have Ukrainian citizenship but are culturally Russian. A significant portion of permanent residents of Ukraine have Russian citizenship they ended up with in the 90s and kept during the chaos of the Yeltsin years, for slightly better gibs, and to have a place to flee to (but not move to - moving is expensive). The latter group got fucked the hardest in Donbass, because Russia didn't consider them refugees (maybe it still doesn't). Both groups are composed of Soviet-era "genocidal settlers and occupants" and Ukrainians assimilated into the USSR.

That said, re: screenshot, it doesn't mean every Russian instantly loses his or her property as of that tweet, it just allows Ukraine to seize it. It remains to be seen how it will be applied to dual citizens (who shouldn't exist in the first place) and to Russians who own property through offshore companies.

We've seen enough T-90s to know that they're not holding them back, they just have a lot less of them than expected. The Armata is still in trials. The Russians did a big restructuring after Chechnya, I believe, and this is their first time fighting a real war with it, so even if it's not incompetence, it's growing pains.

As for the air force, Well, let's do some math. Russia has a lot of border to defend, and they can't afford to completely drop their guard along the Arctic, especially with the heightened nuclear tension these days. Let's be generous and say that Russia pulled 50% of their claimed 1000 operational combat aircraft for operations in Ukraine. Now let's assume that maintenance for the air force has been just as shoddy as it is in the army. The World Directory of Modern Military Aricraft considers 80% to be an "excellent" standard of readiness, so let's start there, but say that another 5% turn out to be unsafe to fly when somebody actually gives them a real look-over because oh, shit, we actually have to send someone up in it. Now you've gone from 500 planes to 380, and that's before anything has even gotten of the ground to move to the staging zone.On the flight over to the border, let's say that 1% of these aircraft turn out to actually have serious problems, and be grounded upon arrival. Then they conduct training missions while waiting for the Go from on high, and let's assume they come out of that with a pretty good 95% of their aircraft ready and raring to go.

Now we have 357 aircraft conducting operations on D-Day, 36% of the supposed Russian strength. After that, we tack on combat losses. These are going to be impossible to nail down, but there are two big factors that make this look potentially bad for the Russians. Firstly, the Ukrainians' mobile AA systems are still combat effective, if significantly reduced, and with the Russians appearing to run low on guided munitions, any attempt to hit something smaller than a city will require the plane to fly low enough to be attacked by man-portable AA weapons. Once again, let's play it safe and call it 20 aircraft downed, written off, or grounded due to damage. Now of the 337 aircraft that made it this far, how many of them are having the equivalent of sun-baked tire syndrome after the first several days of round-the-clock action? Oh, and by the way, Poland has nearly 100 combat aircraft of their own and nothing better to do with them than go "fuck your NATO, I'm going in".

And that's why the Russian air force isn't showing up a whole lot these days.
Regarding the air force, the Brits are saying that Russian are now flying their planes at nightime because the MANPADS are just that effective. This is why they're now sending the Starstreaks to Ukrain, because their high speed and guiding system was designed as countermeasure against the Russian jets

So i know a few people here are onboard the "derpy VDV" train so i thought i would clear some things up.

1, Hostomel airport was never captured by Ukrainian forces. every single one of the "Ukrop forces have retaken the airport xd" was total bullshit.

2, the dead BMDs and soldiers came from attempted breakouts towards friendly lines. if you examine the photos and footage it is no more than a company. to me it looks like they attempted to link up with the advancing friendlies and got their lead column mashed by ukrops

3, the other drops have 0 real info on them and as usual the only narrative at the moment is the ukrops going "we have killed 9 billion VDV" a good example of this complete nonsense is the early reporting of 2 transports full of men being shotdown. this was confirmed by a us official only for a few days to pass and it turns out it was complete bullshit.

4, this brings me to something that i am coming to rapidly hate, just because a US official, whatever that means. says something is true and honest means nothing. they have no reason to tell the truth. and every reason to lie.
But look you see, we Americans are very smart and truthful people and the Russians are sneaky liars unless Israel tells us something different.

There has been a lot of smugness by our fellow Americans and (((Americans))) on the internet against the Russians when it comes to critiquing over how they use their tried and proven military doctrine.

Granted the thing is both sides are basically of the same ethnicity overall in reference to Ivan and the holhols and its war, shit happens.

Its just that the mainstream media in America covered up a lot of fuckups during the GWOT like sending the remains of military veterans to a landfill dump in some shithole somewhere stateside found out years later and hiding pictures of Americans getting their bodies blown to bits by IEDs and other shit, that probably would have ended the war sooner.

because the place has been an active war zone for the last 8 years, with open hostilities between ukraines military and separatist rebel forces, where the fuck else would their army be putting the bulk of its forces and attention?
Fair. However one would think with Russia amassing troops on your border then you might want to move them to where you are about to be attacked.

The official statement of Russian Ministry of Defense is that they captured plans for Ukrainean assault on Donbass that was supposed to take place on March 8, together with that NATO laptop and other shit. It is up to you whether to believe them or not.
By captured plans do they mean the Chinese shared info that Biden told them? Because I'd 100% believe this then

while this might very well be what we see happen, I am 99% certain this was never, ever the 'main goal' for this war. everything that has happened in these first few weeks, including the failures of the russian armed forces, their utter unpreparedness for anything that wasn't a quick surrender by Zelensky and reactions from Putin himself, make me think this theory will become a coping mechanism that he'll have to try and make work as consolation prize...at best.

Jesus fucking christ you two. What is this, Reddit?
B-b-but we are on r/KiwiFarms?
So trying to totally delete an entire culture as well as the people who just happen to be from that geographic location. The people who have been wokescolding everyone for the past 7 years over this sort of thing shure do love it when given the green light on a target don't they, almost like "everyone is racist" is some sort of projection of their own feeling?
I wonder how would they feel when it become their turn on getting on a way of cancel barrage. I'm pretty much convinced the whining would form an entirely new lake at the very least. AS IT SHOULD.
Remember when the Nazis banned music from jewish composers?
Boah, these Nazis sure were bad, bad enough to form the current world order around being the exact opposite of them and make the accusation of being one the worst thing you can say about a person.
I am glad these times of racial hatred are forever gone now.
I would sincerely pro-rugovt if they (Putin and co) would aim at cancelling russian rap as the shittiest of rap culture by-product. BUT UNFORTUNATELY.... !!!!

Oh sure, bombing civilian zones, cluster fucking them and mining the road out that was agreed upon, they're totally trying to keep civilian deaths down. Their doctrine has and always will be fuck the casualties, get the objective, saw it with the Chechen wars, saw it in Syria and now we're seeing it in the cities they're attempting to breach. The fact they haven't gobbled up Kharkiv, which is almost right at the border to Russia just shows how incompetent these Ruskies are. Only a total reject would decide to launch an invasion like this during the thawing, muddy season. great for ground fertility, not so great with tanks and trucks.

It's been a glorious clusterfuck to watch.
Please stop eat human shit that are western media and go touch some actual grass at the back of your lawn, if you have one at all, and leave this thread on behalf of bettering your mental and intellectual health, as it clearly shows now that you have the glownigger\bugman mindset. I urge you to reconsider while it's not too late.
Sort of. It seems to be paid for in VDV reputation and Logistics nightmares.
VDV were elites when USSR was still a thing.
Nowadays VDV batallions are what you might think of penal units combined with regulars, ie full of shit characte of which the only desire is to wait for August, 2 and start do all sorts of ape shit possible. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about, I served 3 years in regular mixed army, and during my tank batallion phase we happend to have a bunch of VDV platoons get placed on polygon where we had to do all our exercises. That wasn't pleasant by any way, they were there just a fucking week and everyone got pissed off by these drunktard, I swear to god...

There's a certain irony in being old enough to remember "No blood for oil" during the Bush administration, only to watch as Biden, who voted for the Invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, drives us head-on into an oil war with cock in hand.
