Yeah. I think a whole lot of people who served are going to go over there and find out that this is a whole different type of thing than the counterinsurgency work they did in places like Iraq or Afghanistan. Most of them have also not thought through the medical situation in a place like that. This is a real conventional war against people armed as well as they are and they have air superiority. It also shows the language problems that most people who go over there will run into.

I'm glad he was able to get out just about intact. I think alot of other people are not going to be so lucky.

Alot of these guys served in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. War against arab insurgents is just about all they know and in some cases 90% of what they trained for. Going to Ukraine its the first time they are going up against a force at least equal to them and, even worse, has just about total control of the air over the battlefield.
Going up against small groups of insurgents is one thing. Getting into a real live war where the other side has the same capabilities you do is a whole other thing. Its horrible. But most of them will not understand until they get there and its too late.

it dosent surprise me that the power that be are doing it. what DOSE surprise me is how people are not only fine with what's going on, but they outright support it. you can really convince people to change their outlook of life and to hate someone if the right people are saying you should. i thought the internet would enlighten people with free information even if it was being controlled by both sides, to atleast open their mind and beable to ask questions and dont believe everything they see or read. but people just shut themselves in hug-boxes were they dont have to think for themselves and let others tell them how to live their lives.

I hope they can dig up a good rifle for him to use cuz that DP (a machine gun) isn't really the best tool for the job. I'm not even sure what precision rifles there are in the Ukrainian arsenal.

All in all I can say that if the Russians were sharing these pics we'd all be talking about how awful and callous they are. I can also say that the VDV are having an absolutely shit time, to the extent that this whole escapade will have really damaged their reputation.
