Well, if the rumor that Putin is ill (or even dying) is true, maybe he decided to take the whole world with him if he couldn't get what he wants
Even if we assume Putin is Super Hitler and wants to kill everyone because he's assmad about being 4ft tall he has 6000 nuclear missiles. He doesn't need to jury rig a dirty bomb out of a nuclear power plant to then accuse the opposition of.

Call me hopium, but i really, really doubt nukes will fly anytime soon unless russia launches a direct attack to a nato country or viceversa.
This. Russia wants land. Nukes make land uninhabitable, thus less land for Russia to take over. I dont know that just seems like the way Putin and Mother Russia would think since they really love their land, they have a shitton of it

Your concerns are entirely unfounded. The general rank and file of the Syrian Arab Army are largely Secular Sunnis who have for the better part of a decade been fighting against Islamic Extremists (Jabhat Al Nusra AKA Hayet Tahrir Al Sham, Ahrar Al Sham, ISIS etc etc) some of whom are affiliated with Al Qaeda and make extensive use of suicide bombers (However these suicide bombers are of course moderate rebel suicide bombers of peace). Meanwhile the Officers are largely Shia Alawites who have seen their people massacred by Sunni Islamists and Jihadists for the better part of a decade.
Thanks, that's interesting and something i wasn't aware of.

I guess there is always a risk of an "ISIS like" organization forming, not one with specific ideology attached to it from the get go, but many foreign volunteer fighters heading to Ukraine right now are doing it for the pleasure of killing and raping, many foreign fighters headed to Syria for the same reasons, they may form a political or ideological alliance at some point but maybe my imagination is in overdrive mode right now.

Looking at the related map of Russian advancement over the Ukraine, here is my armchair/chicken tendies/basement analysis of the event:

Russia's plan was never to occupy Ukraine, but to complete the liberation of Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, form a land corridor all along the coast of the Azov sea to Crimea, and to secure Kherson so that Crimea's water supply would never be cut off or reduced.
That is their territorial objective, and the only one that matters.

Their secondary objectives in the North is mostly a feint to tie down the Ukrainian army.

The 40 mile convoy north of Kiev is only meant to keep Ukrainian defenses tied up in the North while the Russians complete their objectives in the South.

Putin doesn't have any intention of assaulting or occupying any other cities that do not have an overwhelmingly massive number of Russian speakers. That would be expensive and he has little or nothing to gain, especially in the propaganda war. Securing the south, the coast of the Sea of Azov and water for Crimea is all they need, because that leaves little for Ukraine other than Odessa, which the Russian fleet at Sevastopol can blockade with ease since Ukraine no longer has a navy.

In Putin's mind, taking out Zelensky or the Ukrainian government would be nice, but unnecessary. It would be an added bonus, but it is not an objective. Putin prefers having Zelensky in position because the latter doesn't understand military matters, geopolitics, security, intelligence, economics, etc. He's like their version of Joe Biden except he was just a comedian and doesn't have widespread support among his own people, despite the massive glowie campaign to make it appears as though he is loved and revered.

Since Russia's territorial demands are almost complete, they will start to reduce ground forces but beef up air defense units in their new areas.

If they do keep token land forces in the North, those will be the same conscript/low value military who are only there for show and to keep NATO and the Ukrainians army tied up.

Yep, occupying just the area with Russian speakers and leaving the west where the unironic nazis are concentrated to align with NATO. With luck the west will become a vacation destination for Redditors who want to help out the oppressed

Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claims they killed Major General Andrei Kolesnikov, the commander of the 29th Combined Arms Army. They incorrectly stated that he was the commander of the Eastern Military District (he's not) so this claim is already on shaky ground... I'll come back in a few hours and see if any Russian sources are confirming it.

The two previous Major Generals that died were both chiefs of staff, not actual commanders like this guy is, if the claim's true.
Every day that passes Ukraine claims to have killed a top Russian leader, if they are to be believed one has to wonder where does Putin keep pulling these generals from so everything keeps running uninterrupted

Russia's new hypersonic Tsirkon missile was fired from Norwegian sector of Barents Sea

No one wants to see these in action in an actual world war.

Noperino don't you know Russians only have rusty 50 year old gear? That was their only missile! I'm as sure of it as I am of Funko Pop's importance in the universe!

Murrika number wan, those don't work of course! So he need Chernobyl, duuuuuuuh!

Psaki condemning Russia for considering nationalizing property of businesses that pull out of Russia. So... Russia is expected to leave that valuable land and infrastructure abandoned until the west decides otherwise? That's an insane amount of control to try to exercise over a hostile country.

Sounds to me like Russia should look into terraforming or something, considering they have ALL THE LAND. That's like saying the USA needs more land. It's funny as hell.

The amount of global warming needed to make Siberia capable of producing food would be counter productive

To be fair 90% of the land Russia has is an unhospitable frozen wasteland, which is why 90% of their population lives in Moscow and other borders of Asian countries.

I know , I know, it's the Kyiv Independent and all, but still, madness if true. We are now into children's tactics of warfare.
Friend of mine started telling a story about how he went out to buy some iodine and I was in the middle of rolling my eyes - because they're not gonna fuck with an NPP... right? - when he finished it by saying that they were sold out everywhere. Everyone is going about their business normally, but the low-key nuclear hysteria is real.

And yet they won't blink an eye if Xi the pooh did the same thing if it was China.
