Just fucking insane. Within the space of fourteen months more fuckups have happened under Joey's regime than probably any other regime/Administration. Price of gas started going up the day after Joey took power. They fucked up the response to the Chinese Flu. They fucked up the exit from Afghanistan. They got the inflation going. They fucked up the container ship situation. They did a couple of smart things when the war started but looks like they'll fuck that up too. Then we have Kamala, who makes imbeciles look like geniuses. What else? Jesus. More fuckups than I can even remember. The only way midterms won't be an epic bloodbath for the Dems will be if we're all radioactive ash. Don't even think Jesus Christ himself could fix Joey's regime.

People like to talk about the massive stockpile of vehicles the Soviets had, so the Russians couldn't possibly run out of vehicles but 80% of Russia's reserve stockpile of vehicles on paper are in reality probably rusting away in a depot somewhere in Siberia. Sure, the Russians have a large number of active vehicles, but I seriously doubt even 1/4th of their reserve stockpile has seen any significant maintenance this century.

The so-called Arab Spring was encouraged by US policy in that era. The CIA had nothing to really do with it and it wasn't a covert conspiracy. The US used its diplomatic, economic and political leverage to push things in the direction they wanted them to go. This was mostly under the second Bush Administration. There was an explicit belief that autocratic and undemocratic governments in the middle east had led to 9/11. The US pressure for liberalization in the Arab World went hand-in-hand with their policy of nation-building in Iraq. They really believed in the early days that the "new" Iraq was going to be shining city on the hill which would transform the entire region. It was stupid and delusional. But that is what the policy was and what they wanted.
And the US government put every bit of pressure it could on Egypt to throw their "own guy" out during the Arab Spring. They really believed that open elections in places like Egypt would put in power neoliberal regimes.
But then the US saw what the results of the policy were (chaos) and radically reversed direction. Thus their support for the coup in Egypt.
