This recent talk of energy independence is making my head explode. We were energy independent under Trump, but Biden from the word 'go' did his damnedest to cripple oil and natural gas production. Now we're supposed to believe there's genuine interest from the White House that we need to be energy independent? I would laugh at how ridiculous this notion is if it wasn't so infuriating.

I know that. It's just this sudden about face of "energy independence is important u guise!!" is sticking in my craw like a stray hair. I know they'll do nothing with oil, natural gas, or nuclear except demonize them as bigoted forms of energy and will force unreliable renewable sources of energy like wind and solar. They probably won't even try to find ways to increase their reliability, just scream at the peasants when they ask for energy that doesn't leave their homes powerless from most of the day.

I thought the thing was that she said let them eat cake but that cake didn't mean the same thing and actually meant the shit left behind in soup pots after they had been emptied. Basically let them eat fond. Though I like fond more than pastries so if some bitchy queen was telling me to lick the bottom of a pan I used to cook steak I wouldn't object.

Underlining your Buttigieg reference - the cheapest electric car in the USA is the Nissan Leaf, which has a MSRP of roughly 50% the median household income in the country at $27,000. I haven't paid even half of what a Leaf costs for a car, and all of my owned cars have been hybrids.

I am not even fully sure it is a grift. A lot of Dems, especially older ones that were able to vote Clinton, truly believe in it. Chernobyl and Russia fear mongering has killed any chances for them to vote nuclear as they are more paranoid about the town exploding from a reactor than Climate change. It doesn’t help that Obama and presumably Clinton kept pushing non-solutions as alternatives to the dilemma. Now you have 1-2 generations built on hating the most logical source in favor of energy that they think will do something. It is programming at this point.
