the usa is large and has low population density, europe is small and has very high population density. major population centers in europe getting nuked effectively means the whole continent gets covered by nukes, america on the other hand has large swathes of territory with no major population center or military presence anywhere, that's the parts that will be spared. same with russia - the densely populated european part is getting annihilated, while the huge near-empty parts to the east will be spared for the most part.

and no, i don't think that china, israel, india, pakistan, australia, new zealand will get involved. none of these places are inclined to join a nato/russia conflict, none of them are tightly bound to either side. they'll sit on the sidelines and that's it. neither russia nor nato will waste missiles on blowing up random irrelevant neutral countries instead of sending more missiles into the actual enemy.

And those other countries dont get to choose to participate, in that scenario everybody who has nukes will get nuked to prevent them from launching another attack, like for example yanks will nuked china because they can't risk china nuking them after russia just did, and russia has to nuke israel in case it nukes russia after the yanks do, and india has to nuke pakistan and china in case they decide to nuke them, see the problem?

Other countries like canada, australia and nz would get nuked for being part of the five eyes and having equipment that helps with targeting and spy satellites for the yanks. Then others like turkey will get nuked because they let nato place nukes there which again can be used even after the yanks get wiped out

Basically the safest place in this case is central asia, south america and maybe antartica, because africa will become cannibal central after they run out of gibs

It's called GLONASS, however it apparently only covers Russian territory, so it would make sense for their planes to use GPS and what not while operating outside the country.

Scratch that, Wiki says global coverage. I don't think I buy Russian gear using GPS, that seems like something so stupid I don't think even the Russians could do.

Yeah, he's surprisingly coherent when he's sober. A few things in there I didn't know, which run in line with the assumption I've had for the last week and a half that Russia isn't losing, but calling it "winning" would be a bit of an overstatement.

i dont know enough about burgerland to tell whether the rust belt is relevant enough to be nuked in current year, but yeah the coasts (especially the northeast and southwest) are getting pulverized 100%, along with any place that has major military installations (especially known rocket silo positions but i don't know to what extent those are known)

The conditioning on this stuff is so fundamental to the education systems across the west that it acts as a deep implicit psychological trigger in at least 75% of the population. You tag a person as "new Hitler" and its all on autopilot from there.

That's the beauty of shoehorning every new war or conflict into the models of "World War II" or "Vietnam War".

The map is dated and based on more nuclear weapons than the Russians have today. The basic way to think about it is if you are near a location with either a major league sports team or a military base, you are going to be hit.
