The Final Fantasy Thread

Jfc I downloaded the Chocobo GP demo with little knowledge of it beyond the original game.

Get this weird update screen, thinking maybe squeenix is updating the actual game just in a unique way.

Get to main menu finally and microtransations and other free to play bullshit like gems and Gil pop up. The games a god damn mobile game.

I guess even paying for the full price version doesn't fix this and the game revolves around it.

Probably has been done before in other games on systems, but first time seeing this and it honestly made me depressed.
A lot of it reminds me of the Crash Team Racing remake but on steroids. A video was posted in the Mario Kart topic that showed off the gameplay and the game looks nice but I have to agree with the common complaint I'm seeing around that it seems to be way too slow. And when I played the free version is was definitely too slow. I would want the game to run maybe twice as fast. And yeah the microtransactions are pretty absurd. There was so much clutter and mess I kind of got lost in the menus.

It's a shame because with a bit more speed the gameplay would probably be pretty okay.

From what I read if you buy the full version, it doubles the gameplay speed.

I don't know.

Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with FFVI, but hearing the sung opera scene there, and comparing it to the original, I don't really have much of an issue with it now having vocals.
My beef isn't "having vocals". The problem that's it's all sang in chest voice hence, it's not Opera anymore, lyric singing relies on Head Voice resonance and the timbre is distinct. Now it's a poor-man's Budget Glee comedy musical. I bet that I can find better covers in Youtube made by random people. Square should've payed Uematsu royalties and slapped Darkness and Starlight version into the game.

I know the logical thing to do is to make people singing words in the opera scene in the remake but it's kind of cringe
Also not really sung in an opera voice or style.

The Japanese version is basically the same. Was kinda hoping this one would be better, but it's the one that set the tone.

This was always the definitive version for me, vocal-wise.

I mean, it's kinda nitpicky and far from the game's worst issue apparently, but everyone's creaming themselves over the remade opera scene and I'm just shaking my head.

why do the commenters on that video love it

good lord, it's like the old mobile version having tons of good reviews too. Just consume product and get excited for next product
Perhaps the Italian and French version are better? I don't know if it's because they're in languages I don't understand or if it's because when I see the word opera, I think Italy or France.
Though I heard an interesting interpretation that she's suppose to sing like an amateur so it's not true opera.

I don't know, that seems like people are reading too much into it - or, dare I say, coping. The game never comments on Celes singing amateurishly (as unrealistic as it is) and I assume they haven't changed the script in that regard. If she didn't sound like Maria, Setzer would have caught on way earlier too.

Most likely, they made her sound like a generic pop singer because some Japanese businessmen decided that the audience they're trying to appeal to doesn't even know what opera is anymore and they must appeal to the youth. Or maybe it's something as petty as them just not wanting to get trained opera singers for multiple language versions because it's more expensive. This is definitely not an uncompromised artistic vision, though. Not after all the better versions of this song we got over the years.

They dedicate entire portions of the Final Fantasy concerts to the opera scene, all performed in english, plus recorded and released mulitiple times... and they just went with whatever lady happened to be in the office that day.

It's almost like a throwback to the early days of recording english vocals for 90's JRPGs.

The opera sequence is a legendary moment in games and it pre-dates Aeris dying which is also a legendary moment in games. I was told that Aeris dying was important, but I didn't want to be a total poser so I found out about the opera scene and decided that was the one I would exalt because it would make me seem like an OG real Final Fantasy player. Also Lightning is the best character in Final Fantasy history.

So I beat the stranger of Paradise Demo. Im not a big souls or Nioh dude, but I rather enjoyed it. Combat is a little sluggish at first, but once I got more classes and upgraded my move set, things got a lot smoother.

The environmental design is great, I love how all the dungeons are replicated from different FF games and seem to be hinting at some multiverse setup, although its not entirely obvious how.

The plot and writing is intentionally reminiscent of something out of the 90's or early 2000's. Although, im feeling the set up for a Yoko Taro style twist with how everyone seems to lack a past or memories.

Nomura looks like he's gonna go buckwild and im pretty dam excited to see how.

So Paradise might be good, but only ironically
There's two things I need to see if the highest difficulty is available from the start and how much do enemies scale?

My concern is that fights become tedious slogs due to HP and DEF inflation.

Highest difficulty is available from start and so far the fights seem pretty fair.

I hope Nomura gets fed into a woodchipper feet-first.

Give the man a chance, He's been confined to doing KH games for the last 20 years. I really get the feeling he's itching to go apeshit behind the surface level of this game. Between the gore and the amazing attitude of jack.
