On the topic of China, Hu Xijin (Xi's unofficial spokesman, essentially) has commented on the idea of Chinese support. Rather milquetoast but there's a rather narrow line he has to walk here. Don't condemn the invasion, but don't cheerlead for Putin either. And DEFINITELY don't clamor for China to get involved. Beijing doesn't want anything to do with this shitshow.

Hu Xijin is no longer the Editor for Global Times, so he's kind of softened a bit. Funnily enough, before he retired, some Wolf Warriors accused him as not aggressive enough. Motherfucking Hu Xijin, the father of Wolf Warriors ideology, being called too soft is a sign their own propaganda is getting out of control

Russia is creating their own web security certificate, which will give them the ability to decrypt communication & reroute Russian citizens to phony clone sites, further allowing them to spy on their own civilians.

IMO, this is far less interesting than it sounds. If the Russian government has the power to compel business to install certs from their CA, they already had the power to get the data.

Well, the number of Russian men coming home in boxes will only increase, least until the Russian Army stops sending them back altogether. Discontent in Russia will only grow as sanctions hit harder and harder. Should Putin call up substantial reserve forces, those losses will also hurt the civilian economy.

If we're talking the Russo-Japanese War of 1905, the Japanese beat the Russians like red-headed stepchildren. The Russian Baltic fleet went most of the way around the world to get sunk by the Japanese. Afghanistan didn't start badly, but just like we did last year, the USSR had had enough and got the fuck out.

Now we are apparently seeing strategic bombers staying in Russia and firing cruise missiles at Ukraine. Tells me the Uke air defense network is still a going thing. Otherwise, you'd see those Bears and Blackjacks dropping their loads on Uke cities.

At this point, @JosephStalin's opinions on this war are one of the only one's I really trust.

I won't put my trust in anyone.

War is such a fickle thing and anyone who thinks they can grasp the consequences of this conflict are kidding themselves.

We are still dealing with the consequences of the cold war, new material is being uncovered every year and there's still tons of books coming out about that historical event.

What we will know about this war after it ends won't be the same in 5 or 10 years.

Simpletons think that history is static but in reality it's always shifting and changing.

I don't see why people are saying (ironically or not) that this will turn into WW3, aside from the meme and the belief that important nations only fight in world wars. The ebil scray rogue nations are just sitting on the sidelines and no one is stupid enough to use nukes. The Boxer Rebellion and the Kosovo War (or whatever that was) seem like better parallels - Western lands ganging up on an unfortunate enemy to protect their interests also there's a rebellion.
