They're being paid essentially the same wage as the native Ukrainian soldiers. But the main sticking point is that you have to prove intent - it's very hard to reconcile "reddit soyboy who wants to fight for progressive values in Ukraine" with "mercenary doing it for the paycheck."

To put into perspective how retarded the idea of $1000 to $2000 daily payouts are.

Blackwater Contractors were estimated to make $300-$700 a day.

That's not even getting into how US Army pay somewhere between 20k to 70k a year based on rank.

These redditors are not mercs, and they're not making cash. That doesn't mean that there are not operatives, probably being paid, who are being inserted into the conflict as volunteers though.

The volunteers are by definition not mercenaries. You can change the definition of the word in your own head, but they literally aren't.

There's a huge difference between actively ordering people to war, and letting people decide to go on their own initiative. Both of these things hurt diplomatic relations but on wildly different scales. That's the way it's been for over 100 years. It's not a new concept.
