I'm curious as when was the last time communists in the west were even working class. Even if you go back 50 plus years you find that it was mainly middle and upper class white kids at university's that were larping who were at the forefront of these movements. I'm not well versed on pre 1950s communism in America and if it ever was popular with the workers and not the well off.

It's easy to understand under the correct theoretical lenses for each "side".

Globohomo: Nazis are bad, but denazification is just an excuse for Putin to invade. Of course, there are some Nazis but they are a small insignificant minority (the same way radical Muslims were only a small percentage of the population and totally weren't emboldened because they were supported by Western powers)

Communists: Russia defended herself against NATO aggression. Hence Russia's invasion into Ukraine isn't imperialist, but NATOs expansion is (even though joining NATO is voluntarily, as can be seen with countries like Switzerland).

Mostly pre-WW2, but you did still have many labor union members that were members of the communist party but Stalin sort of threw it all into chaos because you had American communists who were stalinists and those that hated Stalin.

The communist party and IWW were all very much working class from 1890’s on. Coal miners, steel industry, auto industry, etc..

The hippies in the 1960’s were the introduction of white middle class college kids playing revolutionary communists and carrying Mao’s Little Red Book around.

I know the feeling, I had never seen the whole video either, just the latter part of it out of context. This whole time I thought it was a parody like Weird Al or something. It's like when I learned Maddox as a character wasn't just a character but just who he was, same with Dax. I guess the lesson is to never assume that it's all a joke and come to terms that people can actually be that stupid.
