Hey Jack Detsch, how can you be so sure then Zelinsky won't prepare himself a false flag to blame Russia?
You mean like a drone that's been out of active service in Russia since 1989, with just enough range to be launched out of western Ukraine, with the Ukrainian coat of arms hastily scratched off and a red star painted over it, hitting a dorm full of students in a NATO country or something?
Haha, where would I be getting such a silly idea?

Semantics aside, you're saying that Ukraine is in their whole right to recapture those separatist regions.

I don't care if you think Ukraine is "morally right" to take those regions in a very bloody military offensive. Russia would have come to it's rescue anyway and we would be in the same situation as today.

No matter how you spin it or how morally righteous you think Ukraine would be in their actions, this would have ended in with dead children, dead civilians and cities burning.
Which even then, the causal point is Russias decision to try and redraw the map. At the end of the day that IS the issue here. Russia did not like the borders and since 2014 has been using force to redraw them. That is why we are now here. Russia decided to embark on this course and it's now reaping what was sown.

It's hard not to wax poetic over this horrific tragedy. It's a comedy of errors all the way down.

Nominally blocking shipping to Russia doesn't need to involve warships. As we've seen already, even the threat of it will make insurance premiums skyrocket and massively bloat the cost of Russian commerce.

Of course, this can be accomplished without a blockade. Suggesting the west literally line up ships and block Russian traffic is retarded.

Interdastingly, this is the only result I get in news for the past week when I search "chickenhawk".

It's probably impractical to actually reoccupy those regions anyways, it's been 8 years and the Ukrainians shelled Donbass to hell and back.

Now, given those are that recognition of the breakaway states and Crimea being Russian are two of the largest Russian demands along with not being able to join NATO, which Ukraine has seemingly signaled. It would be best for both sides that the peace talks soon are successful, Russia vastly underestimated Ukrainian resistance and is caught in the meat grinder known as urban combat, Ukraine is getting its cities destroyed and can't even hope to win a war of attrition unless Putin decides to not send troops to reinforce the Russian army.

Given that both sides seemed to have mellowed out on the negotiating table according to both countries, one can only hope that a sign of things possibly ending will show up.

Sorry but I don't buy this argument of "¡You made me do all this killing and destruction and it's all your fault!"

It's a childish argument that doesn't take into account the nuances of geopolitics or history.

And it doesn't make Ukraine morally righteous in any way.

It brings joy to my heart hearing this. These morons don't seem to grasp that this isn't another adventure in the sandbox against illiterate goat herders with rifles and mortars older than they are. This is a conflict where both side have modern equipment. They're also just as likely to get shot by twitchy Ukrainians with the saboteur hysteria going round, and I'm sure they're filming military positions and buildings which could make them a threat if they're giving away positions. Remember kids the only good journalist is a dead one.
I think that's the hardest thing for people to wrap their heads around. @Feline Supremacist claimed the Bosnian war was similar to this one, but it's not. That, much like the Iraq civil war, was a sectarian conflict between militias, an ostensible central government with limited legitimacy and the Western Powers dropped into the middle. It had it's share of nuttiness but nothing on what is going on here.

This war has turned into the first modern war between peer powers (In Europe) since World War 2. Contested airspace, brigade and division level mechanized forces engaged in campaigns of maneuver. Siege warfare, and widespread use of advanced technology on both sides. It has no comparison. More soldiers have been killed in 3 weeks then died in the last 10 years of the "Global War on Terror"(I fucking hate that name).

The irony of this is I think EVERYONE is shocked. The Russians are shocked at the flood of bodybags coming back from what is supposed to be a cakewalk. The Ukrainians are shocked that not only are they still here, but the Russian Army is still largely stuck in the border areas. The West is shocked because the only plan in place was to bravely run away after Ukraine fell.

This is the greatest application of Murphies Law of War to ever be seen. "Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong".

The Indian rupee has risen against the dollar over the last year.
And yet no one wants to trade using rupees. The value doesn't matter, its whether or not people want to accept rupees as payment for international trade. In practice, Russia is most likely wanted to find some foreign currency reserves to trade for dollars. If so, its going to depreciate rupees value. Doesn't matter though, Modi already have the resources and PR win he needs

Crimea will be bombed from hell and back if Ukraine decides to capture it .

Which in all probability they would do if they pushed the Russians out southern Ukraine. (They will never push the Russians out of southern Ukraine, though)

Note to self: Look into printing a fuckload of "I stand with Tiawan" shirts to sell to retards if China stops being a pussy
>order "I stand with Taiwan" shirts from (((local))) printer
>Local printer just drop ships from Chinese mega print house that also makes the shirts
>shirts show up
>They say "1 China,China #1"
