What kills me is that for all of the bitching about 'it's so greedy, MTX, waaah' bullshit, the game has a SINGLE questionable monetization thing, that being the season pass with a character locked. And even then, if they're gonna do it, of *course* they're going to use a character people want, because that's how capitalism works. Beyond that, the cash shop is one of the best examples of monitzation, in that it only has some costumes to dress up Chocobo, and some extra songs. That's it. Mind, it can always get worse, but for the best cart racer I've played since Diddy Kong Racing, I'd say it's fucking dandy.

Leave it to Jim to fuck up understanding the most popular, most widely talked about FF game. A quick google search would fix this: The fight against Shinra wasn't a 'corporations bad, capitalism bad' meandering failure of economic understanding. It was a fucking environmentalist message. 'Company sucks up the remains of the dead to use as energy and doesn't care that it's a non-renewable resource.'

I disagree and don’t think Jim really looked into the micro transactions, two majors issues I have that Jim never addressed is the unlockable characters have unique abilities and their vehicles have different stats so that’s a pretty significant thing if they’re completely unavailable after the season ends, most season passes just have cosmetics and various currencies.

Another thing that’s bad and wasn’t brought up is the premium currency you pay actual money for expires after a while, I’ve never seen that before in a game and another more minor issue is a secondary currency, gold I think it’s called, is used to buy another character (Squall) that is only available for a limited time as well as his vehicles you can only get via daily quests which can only be completed doing the online battle royale mode as well as via the battlepass.

Personally I thought the game itself was okay (I completed the single player mode and played it online a bit) but balance is an issue with some characters having straight up stronger abilities, abilities which can’t be blocked with items you pick up and the items are pretty chaotic, portals especially, and found winning was more down to random chance than skill.

I think the appeal is similar to how some girls think they can purify the bad boy. Remember when Bill nye's Netflix show had an ice cream cartoon where the straight ice cream just needed to try it to love being a degenerate? Cross these two ideas together and you have the low-hanging fruit: this dude isn't into dudes, but YOU could be the dude to show him how into dudes he is, and that he'll be into you and you alone. There are also gays who are failed romantics, people who now are attracted to men simply because they're done being rejected by women. This part is more theoretical, but I wouldn't be surprised if some gay men think of it as saving straight dude(s) (that they're conveniently attracted to) from the same pain they went through going for chicks. If it's not that, the strong desire for a partner they had when chasing women certainly doesn't vanish into the either when they hunger for sausage instead of taco.

I fucking hate everyone that only played the opening section of FF7 and limited their view of the antagonists as corporate greed assholes. That's not why Shinra is a villain.

Shinra is a military company that happens to be the only company in the energy business. They will gladly show up to any Podunk town and set up reactor for them so long as they agree leave it the fuck alone and becoming subservient to Shinra as if it were a country. It's not about the money, I don't even remember a single line in game about Shinra charging towns for that service, all concerns were about "well, maybe it's not a good idea to let Shinra own our town where they can do whatever they want and if the reactor blows up we're SOL". Hell, President Shinra lost several billions of dollars dropping a plate on a sector and refusing to repair it even though it would cause untold financial loss just as a message to everyone about the repercussions of the eco terrorism being wrought.

Shinra doesn't care about money, they care about controlling everything and finding a permanently renewable resource to use because they know Mako is limited and without it they are nothing.

At absolutely no point does anyone ever say "fuck Shinra for being greedy", it's always "fuck Shinra, they're ruining the planet". PLAY THE GODDAMN GAME AND PAY ATTENTION.

In response to both of these, it's absolutely shit because you are ALREADY paying for the game. These are models normally used exclusively by free to play games. And to add insult to injury, paying the full price of the game only nets you free currency enough for the first season, and playing free (supposedly) locks you OUT of that kind of gameplay.

Lastly in response to Pickle Inspector specifically, the only expiring currency i'm aware of is the bonus currency for buying the game. Still dumb though.

I refuse the buy the game because I'm done with games constantly trying to get more and more cash out of me for less effort. "Pay us $40 to play. Oh, you want cloud? Another $20 or spend 30 hours grinding" I don't even want to play as Cloud; I just firmly believe battle passes belong in mobile games. Shame too, game looks good. But I want a Chocobo Racing game, not a Chocobo Racing Live Service.

Also, if a company has grown so large that it owns literally everything and the government is literally pointless(the mayor of one of the towns tells you he's basically just a librarian because Shinra runs everything), that's not a company anymore-it's a dictatorial government. Outer Worlds made this same mistake by having all the companies be in league with each other, meaning there was no competition and they were all just dictators instead of CEOs.
